IGN Starts 2 weeks of Video game Hall of Fame inductees

Recommended Posts

Here are the information on how the games get inducted:

ll games considered for the Hall of Fame must have been out for at least 10 years at the time of induction.

During each induction period, every videogame editor submits a list of five titles they believe deserve to be considered for the Videogame Hall of Fame. Each title must be supported by at least four other editors to be considered for the final nominee list.

Nominees are based on a variety of factors, including how well they were designed as compared to other games at the time, how entertaining they were at the time of release, how influential they were to future releases, and how well they stand up over the long haul.

Final voting is done by silent ballot where the editors may vote “for,” “against,” or “abstain” for each title in question. Editors are encouraged to abstain from voting if they do not feel knowledgeable enough about a title to make an informed decision either way.

To be inducted, at least half of the editorial team casting ballots must vote either “for” or “against,” the title in question (eg. a choice other than “abstain”). In addition, at least 75% of those votes must be “for” allowing the title into the Hall of Fame.

20 titles will be selected for induction during the initial launch of the Videogame Hall of Fame in April 2007. After launch, a maximum of 10 games can be inducted in each six-month period. If more than 10 titles meet the criteria, those with the highest percentages of “for” votes will be foremost considered for induction.”

To limit franchise flood, only one title per series will be inducted per period. While the criteria may seem stringent, we do want to make sure we're adhering to the highest standards for this top honor of distinction.

There was an old pc gaming mag I used to subscribe to (way long time ago) that had a gaming hall of fame which included nice 2-3 paragraph descriptions of why they inducted it. It was a pretty good list. Kinda miss that mag.

They inducted another game in time.

It is not hard not to agree with Prince of Prince of Persia being in inducted. The game was called a classic for a while before being inducted. It was many top 100 games of all time lists by game magazines or video game media websites. I recalled the game being of many plaforms in the early 90's a pc port.

Prince of Persia still lives on today as a hit series.

There could be 8 more inductees in the next couple weeks.

Did NiGHTS into Dreams or Shining the Holy Ark make it into there?

Not yet. Ign still has to induct up to 8 more games for this week and next week. I don't have any inside information for voting results.

I don't know Nights into Dreams or Shining the Holy Ark wil be one of the 8 remaining inductees.

The third inductee is Maniac Mansion: Day of the Tentacle.

This the 3rd inductee coming from the Pc platform this week so far. This is the 3rd Lucasarts game being inducted in the video game hall of fame. The first two are The Secret of Monkey Island and Star Wars: Tie Fighter. This is remarkable for Lucasarts having 3 games inducted in the Hall Fame after 18 months. The only company that havs more games inducted in the Video game Hall of fame is Nintendo.
