Elerach #1 Posted May 1, 2008 Where do you buy your Atari 2600 games? Be it thrift stores, ePay, Or some other oddball place, i want to know! i personally buy mine from http://www.collectorscardsandgames.com/ Great site, with one of the most knowledgeable collectors on the internet. Plus, he has a HUGE selection.
Emehr #2 Posted May 1, 2008 I've got all the 2600 games I care to own. When something new comes along I buy it right here, in the good ole AtariAge store. Sometimes I'll impulse buy a game at Stare Exchange, I mean, GameXchange. If I see something I like in the Marketplace forums I'll get it there. aftermac #3 Posted May 1, 2008 I like the excitement of finding things at thrift stores, flea markets, and garage sales. If I'm looking for something specific, I'll seek it out on the Internet, but that takes some of the fun out of collecting for me.
+SpiceWare #4 Posted May 1, 2008 Mostly eBay and AtariAge, though I have picked up about 15 at a video game store in Wisconsin Rapids while visiting my brother.
NeitherSparky #5 Posted May 1, 2008 I got most of mine from a Dimple Records. I got one at a different Dimple, and ordered one on eBay that should be here soon. Between these I have all the carts I really *want* (well, I could use Ms Pacman I guess). When we were kids we didn't have a lot of money, so I have many more carts now than I did back then. I have all the carts my friends had that I wished I had, too. I just sort of generally keep an eye out. I like being surprised to find neat things in unexpected places. Plus I'm a natural-born shopper. Hunting for a specific thing you want is cool, but so is just randomly coming across something neat when you're out one day. And to be honest I think I'd be happy if all I had was Adventure, Haunted House, E.T., and Superman.
Mirage #6 Posted May 1, 2008 I haven't seen much 2600-wise in the wild for a few years. Just a few commons here and there. The actual collecting part was so much more fun back then ('90s mostly), and that's how I got most of my collection. To fill in the holes, I did get a few from AtariGuide.com, a few from 4Jays, and a couple other places. I did buy one or two rare ones on ebay. Other than homebrews, I've only gotten 5 or 6 2600 carts in the past couple years.
Deteacher #7 Posted May 2, 2008 In order of preference: 1. Flea markets/Thrift Stores 2. Atariage/DP 3. Feebay That's pretty much it for me.
1982VideoGames #8 Posted May 2, 2008 I've bought many games from Atari2600.com. Excellent quality, quick shipping, and good prices. Colecovision games too.
midnight magicman #9 Posted May 2, 2008 Ranking them from most effective source to least, this is how I've acquired ALL of my Atari collection so far (aside from original purchases/gifts from back when originally released). 1. Flea Markets (this is my favorite way to find 2600 games. Most of these so-called "antique dealers" have no idea what this stuff is worth) 2. eBay (only buy large lots, individual games are WAY too expensive via eBay) 3. Atariage (only place I've bought homebrews & got a good deal of my Activision collection filled from folks on the forums here!) 4. Salvation Army (I've never found a 2600 game @ any of our other thrift stores & we have 4 of them. Salvation Army, for some reason, is a pretty reliable source for 2600 games. Especially commons.) 5. Garage Sales (the early '90s were the prime time for finding atari @ garage sales but I still get out every once & a while & last year I actually found a garage sale with a large 2600 lot. when it DOES happen, boy, is it exciting.) Peace
jboypacman #10 Posted May 2, 2008 I get most of my games from these two places....... http://www.tradengames.com/ http://www.atari2600.com/
Frostbite Bailey #11 Posted May 2, 2008 Anywhere on this planet! Preference yard sales, garage sales, flea markets, thrift stores, but I have bought them from members here/other sites, through email contact, Ebay & various other auction/web sites, local ads I have placed, private sales .. pretty much everywhere Brazil, Canada, U.S.A., Australia, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Venezula, Japan, England ... you get the picture ADDICTED!!! Dino #12 Posted May 2, 2008 Australia I dont like you
ls650 #13 Posted May 2, 2008 I buy the vast majority off eBay. I have found one local videogame store that sells some older stuff, and have bought a few carts there. I've also managed to track own a couple of carts with ads on the local Craigslist/Kijiji.com - and of course, I've recently bought a couple of homebrews off the AtariAge store! Frostbite Bailey #14 Posted May 2, 2008 Yes jboypacman, two great spots to help fill the holes in your collection or get label variants you may be looking for! I have bough there as well. 2600.com is great if you are looking for boxed stuff.
Frostbite Bailey #15 Posted May 2, 2008 Thats ok Dino Us Canadians are pretty easy to get along with. I don't like you either You are my competition in Australia, although I try not to bid against you now. Always some interesting labels and pirates to be found there in OZ! Cheers mate! Dino #16 Posted May 2, 2008 Thats ok Dino Us Canadians are pretty easy to get along with. I don't like you either You are my competition in Australia, although I try not to bid against you now. Always some interesting labels and pirates to be found there in OZ! Cheers mate! As you know, I was just kidding. I think its great taht there are foreign collectors who take an interest in carts from Down Under. and there certainly are interesting labels and pirates. Its good for me personally taht US collectors don't value these, as my collection would be a small fraction of what it currently is if they did. I'm certain you have outbid me on stuff and I have outbid you on stuff in the past, but that's ok, taht's how friendships sometimes develop. I have often wondered who taht Canadian was and now I finally know. BTW, you, Staberinde, Marc O, frax and ESPECIALLY Marco are all on my hit list The problem with Ebay OZ these days is that its not possible to know who you are bidding against ... Take care and enjoy the collecting!
cosmicpsycho #17 Posted May 2, 2008 Mostly thrift stores and flea markets, though as my collection gets larger I'm sure I'll have to start looking online.
Frostbite Bailey #18 Posted May 2, 2008 I thought your post was funny as hell! Yes, I knew you were just ribbin, me. It totally sucks that you can not tell who you are bidding against anymore! A lot of the time I will back off if I know the person, and just be patient and wait for it to come up again, but now it is damn near impossible to tell who you are bidding against. At one point you could even touch base with the other bidder(s) if you happened to know them and just see what their interest was, now it is all gone to [email protected]!!! The shipping from Aus. is the killer for me, I usually get it sent sea mail which is brutally slow, but cheaper and has not failed me yet! All great collectors you have mentioned, nice to see we share a similiar interest, take me off the hit list please , how about we team up on Marco, I feel like taking on the dark side, Hey don't forget I collect PAL too! Cheers, FB

Cheers, FB I've done similar things in the past with collectors i know too and i am usually prepared to wait for another. No matter how rare a cart is, another will always pop up. You're off the hit list now, but not Marco Shipping internationally from here is a killer! If you come across sellers who won't ship internationally, feel free to have the item sent to me and I wil then forward it on to you. I've done that from time to time for other collectors. Frostbite Bailey #20 Posted May 2, 2008 Thanks for removal from the hit list No need to watch my back now. That would be great Dino, thanks for the offer. Likewise, if you need something from Canada or the US if I can get it!
shadow460 #21 Posted May 2, 2008 I get most of mine from Game X Change and thrift shops. I'll probably start buying from the newer Vintage Stock stores as well, since they're not smoking crack anymore. It seems to me that certain stores are better than others in any chain; Game X Change and Vintage Stock are no exceptions.
+Ransom #22 Posted May 2, 2008 This year, since picking up the 2600, I've bought most of my stuff from eBay sellers. Why? Because at least there I can see a picture of what I'm buying. I wish the online stores showed pictures of the games. Condition matters to me! If the box is crushed, badly torn, or water damaged, then why would I want it? Show me the product! That said, I have bought some games from Atari2600.com. And my long-time suppliers of all things Atari at Best Electronics and B&C Computervisions have come through for me on a few items. Of course, I can't forget Atari Age. Great home brews!
Foxsolo2000 #23 Posted May 2, 2008 Picked up around 90% of my 2600 games off Ebay but I have got a Dreamcast, 2 Sony PS1's and loads of games from our local charity shop though
keilbaca #24 Posted May 2, 2008 I stop into Cash 'n Culture to see if they have any 1986+ relabeled games. So far I have been lucky, found 3, including Pele's Soccer. If its something specific, I just get it in the Atariage marketplace.
Rik #25 Posted May 2, 2008 I really dont know whats going on with mail service lately, service has gone down the drain. So,because of that,my main source was usually Ebay, but for the mentioned reason and others,i no longer use ebay or any mail order. Now for the thrifts?i have seen NOTHING,ZIP,for classic games for the past 6-7 months, absolutely dried up,same with the flea markets. So since i no longer mail order,i have no where to buy games at the moment.Oh wait there is Sega Genesis,NES to be found,at thrift stores, and even thats getting scarce, but INTV,2600,400/800,7800,CV,nothing
