How does the high score cart work from a hardware point of view? Does the 7800 initialize it as usual and then it executes the 7800 cart inserted into it? Or is it a little more complicated than that?

How does the high score cart work from a hardware point of view? Does the 7800 initialize it as usual and then it executes the 7800 cart inserted into it? Or is it a little more complicated than that?

 

This page describes where it sits in memory. I believe it's loaded along with the cart but is only used if the cart was written to look for it.
