Atari 2600 Speakers....Good for Tempest.....

Recommended Posts

Were they released on ANY model, 4 or 6 switch. I thought when we took our atari apart to clean, we saw it had speaker ports, and am now curious if we might have a piece of history :)

I think you misunderstood lol.

Were any of the final releases have speaker holes "Drilled" out in them? Or just certain models?

They can be found on several of the 6 switch units, you don't have a prototype, it's normal.

I actually modded speakers and a small sony amp into an Atari for a guy. It even had a switch to turn them on and off in back.

It was supposed to be a sick mod with color changing LED's for which direction/fire you pushed that I had drilled on the top also, the direction you pushed, the LED goes out.

The speaker mod I still did, but I didn't do the LED mod. I didn't have any more spare 2600's except for one, and the cat jumped on my back when I was drilling the right hole for the first player joystick.

At any rate, yes there is one atari with speakers built in. I did it!

As for the holes in the speakers, 90% of atari heavy/light switch consoles had them, and a majority of the 4 switch non vader consoles did (as they used the same shell from the heavy/light sixer, just replaced the front plate where the switches are at).
