godzillajoe #1 Posted May 8, 2008 Has this topic been done? Are there too many to mention? Did certain companies demand it?
shadow460 #2 Posted May 8, 2008 Activision demanded it. And yes, there are a whole lot of games that do not flicker.
Video #3 Posted May 13, 2008 Yeah, a whole lot. Most the Activision titles, Coleco, and Mnetwork brands also did for most of their titles. In fact, many of Atari's own games had no flicker for that matter.
+FujiSkunk #4 Posted May 13, 2008 (edited) I'm all for reducing flicker to the minimum necessary, but several times I've thought a game would have been much better if the programmers had allowed for some flicker. Rampage and Burger Time are the biggest culprits, I think. The enemies in Rampage are way too predictable (everything is forced to stay in a certain horizontal band of the screen), and the enemies in Burger Time are unrecognizable (too much reliance on missile and ball graphics). Activision (the publisher of Rampage) and M-Network (the publisher of Burger Time) were legendary in demanding games without flicker, so pretty much all of their games are flicker-free. On other other side, Atari and Parker Brothers probably took advantage of flicker the most. Edited May 13, 2008 by skunkworx
shadow460 #5 Posted May 15, 2008 Some Starpath titles had flicker, but most didn't. The ones I can recall having it are Phaser Patrol (makes the text bar look more realistic, though), Suicide Mission, and Frogger.
Christophero Sly #6 Posted January 5, 2009 (edited) Has anyone compiled a list of flicker-free games? Edited January 5, 2009 by Christophero Sly
