Punchout on MAME

Recommended Posts

I’ve been playing PunchOut on MAME and I’m noticing that the controls aren’t very responsive when using a standard keyboard. When I punch or dodge, it’s sometimes on a delay. Is this something to do with the emulation process or is this simply how the game plays? The controls are accurate, they just seem…slow.

Is there a way to slow the emulation speed? Keeping in mind that I haven’t played the arcade game in 20 years (and I was 7 at the time), I don’t remember getting passed Bald Bull in the arcade, however I don’t remember the game only lasting 3 minutes at best. It seems like the game is running a bit too fast and I can’t really find information on how to slow the emulation speed, only increase it.

You really need a gamepad. A keyboard just isn't going to cut it.

You can change the difficulty of the game in the dip switch menu. It might help a bit.

If it seems like the games running slower than normal, it might be caused by your mame version.

Newer mame versions require beefier hardware to run games at the same speed as older meme versions.

I could play most games at full speed on a celeron 1.2 ghz slot 1 machine using mame .102.

If you don't want to change mame versions, you can adjust your sound sampling rate and video options

to compensate.

I'm asking if there is a way to slow the speed. To me, it seems like the game is running faster than usual, but it just might be me.

Sorry, totally misread you there.

I'm not sure how to make your game slower, but it still might be worth a shot

to check out the difficulty settings.
