so_tough! #1 Posted May 21, 2008 What racing games are there on the 2600? Any top down racers?
borntorun #2 Posted May 21, 2008 The best racing games for the 2600, IMO, are Enduro, Pole Position, and Sprintmaster. The best driving/combat game is Spy Hunter.
mimo #3 Posted May 21, 2008 Just get Pole Position II for the 7800 and your good to go, though obviously it is not a top down racer
darthkur #4 Posted May 21, 2008 Indy 500 would be what you're looking for. Just make sure to get the driving controllers with it. http://www.atariage.com/software_page.html...wareLabelID=
midnight8 #6 Posted May 21, 2008 Enduro is my fav but I also enjoy grand prix
iswitt #7 Posted May 21, 2008 No guys, the best one ever is obviously Math Gran Prix.
littleman jack #8 Posted May 21, 2008 Sprint Master is a good top down racing game. And Bump n Jump is also top down, and a lot of fun. It's not really a race though, more like a demolition derby and drive. You just drive, jump, and ram other cars. And it has a continue feature, which is rare for a 2600 game. Impaler_26 #9 Posted May 21, 2008 Motocross and Motocross Racer are also not bad.
+batari #10 Posted May 21, 2008 Sprintmaster sucks. It looks and sounds good but the control is horrid and the physics are abysmal. Indy 500 looks bad but the physics are much more realistic.
Atariboy #11 Posted May 21, 2008 (edited) My favorites are... Bump 'n' Jump (Top down and I still consider it a racer, even though your not racing the clock or for position) Pole Position Night Driver Indy 500 Enduro Not really adding anything new to the thread, but all those games are a lot of fun. I don't like Grand Prix much, despite the impressive graphics, it just is zoomed too far in and relies too much on memorization to feel like I'm racing. Sprintmaster just isn't any fun due to the steering. If they had relaunched the Indy 500 controllers and programmed it to use those, I think it would've been a great Super Sprint clone for the 2600. No one's mentioned Dragster yet, which is still a racing game and a real classic. And there's Fatal Run, but I don't remember much about it at the moment. If it sucks like it's 7800 counterpart, I'd avoid it. Edited May 21, 2008 by Atariboy

SRGilbert #13 Posted May 22, 2008 Yep, hard to beat Indy 500, a friend and I would play that for hours. Loved the ice track variation.

Atariman #15 Posted May 22, 2008 Another vote for Indy 500 - I think this has to be the most fun I've ever had with a racing game on the 2600.
so_tough! #16 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) cool, I think I'll have a look for Indy 500 Edited May 22, 2008 by so_tough!

thomasholzer #19 Posted May 22, 2008 (edited) Slot Racers is a top down sort-of-racer (or was that Dodge 'em?) Edited May 22, 2008 by thomasholzer
littleman jack #20 Posted May 22, 2008 They're both top down. And both suited for two players. One is only a two player game, and the other is almost impossible when you play against the computer.

The physics and the gameplay still suck.
aftermac #23 Posted May 23, 2008 What racing games are there on the 2600? Any top down racers? Street Racer (lame) I used to really enjoy Street Racer when I was a kid, but I'm probably the only one. Haven't played it in years.
toymailman #25 Posted May 23, 2008 Indy 500 is tops for me. Still dreaming of a 4-player version on the 400/800.
