Parrothead #2 Posted May 23, 2008 (edited) ...I found a classifieds ad for a shoebox full of games and several systems. I'm going over there right now to see what they have. I LOVE finding games in the wild!!! Sweet. Hope you get something good! I found a Free Craigslist ad for Vic 20 computer, 11 cartridges, C64 Disk Drive and some other stuff. No idea what the games are, hopefully some harder to find games. And for free. Picking up later this evening also, right down the street from me Edited May 23, 2008 by Parrothead
Ferret75 #3 Posted May 24, 2008 Why doesn't my town ever have anything like that? =P I can't recall a single person who has anything older than a NES.
boek #4 Posted May 24, 2008 (edited) I ended up with three 2600 systems, all woodgrain. One heavy sixer, a four-switch, and a TeleGames Video Arcade (Is that Sears?) One set of paddles, a Star Raiders keypad, two sets of joysticks with the orange accents (one joystick is missing the grippy part), and about thirty games. Virtually all the games come with manuals. I have about 2/3 of the games, but whatever. $40. Now let's just see if it all works... Edited May 24, 2008 by boek
boek #5 Posted May 24, 2008 (edited) The four-switch and the TeleGames systems both work. The heavy sixer, however, is a different story. The part where you stick the game in is awfully low and deeper than the others. I think someone busted it. I ended up getting Midnight Magic stuck in there, which scraped up the game. The channel select switch is also broken off. Could it be fixed? Edited May 24, 2008 by boek

You might be able to find a simple switch down at The Source too, but it might not look the same. You could save a lot of shipping fees that way. Make sure you pick up one of those cheap desoldering guns with the rubber pump on the end. They work pretty good.

Here's pictures of the stuff I got today. Excuse the dust; I haven't cleaned anything yet. The text label Combat is my first text only label!
Ferret75 #8 Posted May 24, 2008 I envy you. =P I owe my parents a ton of money since I had to get medicine and a vet examination for my ferret, so I can't really buy anything now. On top of that, I only have three 2600 games, and no 7800 games.
+Omegamatrix #9 Posted May 24, 2008 (edited) Your Heavy Sixer is actually a Light Sixer. And all the slots for them look like that. They are much tighter slots then the 4 switchers, and you will have trouble putting some carts in. Of note are the open ended shells from Atari that they used for the red labels, and some silver & black labels. These carts are slightly bigger then the regular style Atari carts (the ones with the sliding trapdoor) and will have to be forced into the port. shadow460 #10 Posted May 24, 2008 You will probably find the channel selector switch rolling around inside the case. Repairing the light sixer I just got was easy, but I did need the extra punch of my desoldering tool (45 watts) to help my 15 watt iron. I reflowed the connections on all the switches and it reduced RF noise as well as making the power and reset switches actually work.

Anyway, do games often get stuck/scratched in the sixers?
boek #12 Posted May 24, 2008 Despite my stupidity toward my LIGHT sixer (), did I get a good deal?
phaxda #13 Posted May 24, 2008 Absolutely! You could probably keep one system and make a bit of your money back by selling the other 2.

classicgamingguy #15 Posted May 26, 2008 Wow... That's a nice haul. As was posted here, no one around my area seems to have anything older than an N64! Well, after scouring the yard sales this past weekend with my wife, I managed to come up with a Namco TV game system with a/v cables, and have the following games: Pac Man Galaxian Bosconian Dig Dug Rally X I know, not exactly 2600 related, but I WAS going around trying to find carts and/or games this Memorial Day weekend, and I failed miserably. At least I came away with SOMETHING for my efforts. They did have a "funtastic" N64, but resisted the impulse. I wanted Atari stuff, and came away empty handed.
