PressureCooker2600 #1 Posted June 12, 2008 I usually, being the "old-timer" gamer that I am, find myself playing tons of games of Doom, Tron, etc. when I get onto my 360. The only downside is, despite all the cool online features for the games, 99.9% of the time.....no one else is playing the game......either that or they aren't playing it online. Last night was a change in that equation, though, if only for a brief hour. I logged into my 360....put on Warlords and began looking for online matches. No one was playing......surprising, eh? But just before I decided to quit....I tried again and BEHOLD!!!! I was thrown into a match with three other gamers who all appreciated the fact that there was at least SOMEONE else in this world who wanted to play some damn Warlords online. An hour of classic gaming action ensued with classic Warlords-trash-talking.....I ended up winning only once in like 10 games. The funniest thing said during our long play was : Me: "Man.....finding someone to play Warlords online is like trying to find someone to play Tron online." Everyone else : laughing their asses off Some dude: " Can't help you there buddy." I guess not everyone likes Tron.
NE146 #2 Posted June 12, 2008 I guess not everyone likes Tron. Well it's not that I don't like Tron, or Warlords. What I hate is using the crappy controls for the games. The pad just doesn't cut it for either games, so I aint playing. Easy
PressureCooker2600 #3 Posted June 12, 2008 The analog works just fine for Warlords. It's no trak-ball but it does the job.
PressureCooker2600 #4 Posted June 12, 2008 We were also talking about how we'd wished they had released the original Atari 2600 version of Warlords instead of the arcade version. I always preferred the 2600 version over the arcade version.
Atari5200 #5 Posted June 12, 2008 what is your dashboard name? I'll send you a friend request. I'll buy Doom, and we can play some deathmatch.
moycon #6 Posted June 12, 2008 I would play Doom Vs as well.

PressureCooker2600 #8 Posted June 12, 2008 I would play Doom Vs as well. I sent you a friend request about a week ago. Just waiting now. I'll be off work tonight at about 10:45.

I added you a couple days ago. Thing is, I start work at 10pm. We will hook up on the week-ends some time though if nothing else. My online times usually varies. Just depends on what is going on, but on most days during the week I work all night.
Atari5200 #10 Posted June 12, 2008 (edited) that's about when I play, late at night, have to wait til the wife goes to bed before I can get on. I'll try to get to this tonight. I wish XBL had Duke Nukem 3d, I had some really good times playing that over the modem. Your an hour behind me, I just noticed, probably won't be tonight. I can't stay up that late. I wish XBL had Duke Nukem 3d, I had some really good times playing that over the modem. Generally on the week-ends late at night I'm on (since I dont have to work) We could probably get a game going this week-end for sure if you guys are available. I'll be oncall so I'll be stuck around the house all week-end. Duke Nuke 3D was one of the few games I played all the way through more than once. I never did play multiplay on it though. I had the PS1 version. That would be awesome if it came to Live. Maybe it will right before DN Forever is released!
Atari5200 #12 Posted June 12, 2008 if it's past 10pm est. there's a good chance I can get on or get on soon after. I generally don't play online, but hey, what the hell right?
NE146 #13 Posted June 12, 2008 The analog works just fine for Warlords. It's no trak-ball but it does the job. You mean it's no Paddle? I couldn't play Warlords with a trackball either
Atari5200 #14 Posted June 13, 2008 I bought Doom yesterday and played one round online with a random person. Doom so far is the only game I've played on XBOX live that has lagged. It wasn't bad, just annoying at times.
moycon #15 Posted June 13, 2008 When you play Vs like that you are at the mercy of your opponents internet connection. Your connection might be fine, theirs might have latancy. If they have it, you'll see it even if your connection is blazing fast.
cimerians #16 Posted June 13, 2008 No proper controls = no playing or paying for the game. I especially hate it when they release trackball\paddles games without having a trackball\paddle controller on the market. Been doing it for years since the PS1. I'll stick with my local 2600 multiplayer matches.

It wasn't bad, just annoying at times. No lag for me on it yet. I played some random person and won both rounds......then he left. I guess he got frustrated with me fragging the hell outta him. Atari5200 #18 Posted June 13, 2008 I have to say, doom is fricking sweet on the 360. The controller makes it much easier than I remember, I can fly through the levels with little to no problem at all. Atari5200x is my dashboard name, drop me a line some evening and we'll play a few rounds.
S1500 #19 Posted June 14, 2008 Around Wednesday this week I was playing with one person on co-op Doom. Sadly, he had to go before we could get very far. I'm up for any co-op Doom: Teebo1500.
PressureCooker2600 #20 Posted June 14, 2008 I'll send you a ring.........I'm looking for anyone who's game for some solid co-op or deathmatch.....without leaving mid-game. Can anyone explain the scoring to me? I got at least 30 frags in 2 rounds with a guy.....and on the leaderboards, it shows I only got 3 kills????? Any ideas??? How does the 360 calculate leaderboard scoring? Like on games like Robotron and other games.

PressureCooker2600 #22 Posted June 15, 2008 No........ But even the single player campaigns have leaderboard scores. And Robotron has scores calculated on it's leaderboards. How do they come up with those scores???

How do they come up with those scores??? I believe you have to play ranked matches in order to effect your multiplayer stats. Player matches are for casual/practice games. Atari5200 #24 Posted June 16, 2008 we need to figure out a time to play. I need some competition. I've either gotten really good at Doom in the last few days, or this game is easier than I remember, probably due to the controller, or maybe it's luck, but I'm totally decimating random opponents on live. Usually I play(either GTA or whatever) after my prime-time programs are over in the Central time zone. I'm only watching American Gladiators tonight, then I'm free to XBLA.
