psonefan
I have a Sega Genesis 3 button controller for my Genesis 3. The problem I have is the A-C buttons don't work I have to press hard for the button to work. Is the controller faulty? If so should I buy a new controller? Red_Queen
This means that whatever is between the controller is not contacting well enough. You have to open the controller and put something between it ( like a piece of paper or something hard that is not metal ) . It also could mean the controller is damaged and the board is cracked. Where you have to weild the parts together.
AtticGamer
Try to clean the contacts.
nathanallan
Or you could make belt buckles out of them and get new ones, Genesis controllers aren't expensive. And you can upgrade to the 6-button ones. Nathan
Ze_ro
I'd say open it up and try cleaning it first. If that doesn't work, just buy a new one... they're common and cheap. --Zero

Some Genesis titles don't play well with those and require a 3-button original to work. Clue and Ms. Pac-Man come to mind, for example. shadow460
Never had any trouble out of Ms Pac-Man with my 6 button controller on my Genny 3. Maybe I'm just lucky...

You know, when you have a game like that and a 6 button controller, you're supposed to hold the "mode" button down on the 6-button controller to put the controller in three buton mode when you turn the system on. +SpiceWare
Ah, that explains the trouble I had with Ms. Pac-Man on my Nomad. I'll try that mode button tonight.
vdub_bobby
The trouble of repairing a Genesis pad (!) can't be worth the $3 you can get a used one for at a 2nd-hand store. Really, when your pencil breaks do you painstakingly glue it back together or do you just buy another one? Unless you like doing that kind of thing. littleman jack
I've had success with Windex. It may be a bad idea, but dripping a bit of Windex under the buttons has revived two of my Genesis three button controllers.
