Does anyone have/use a Willem USB Programmer?

Recommended Posts

I'm considering replacing my Parallel Port eprom programmer with a USB model. Has anyone used the newer Willem USB-only model?

Thanks,

Larry

I HAD one a total waste of money imo, however some people persevere, modify etc and can sometimes get a decent eprom out of it. I think I got a 3% success rate :x I think a lot of the problem is that a-they are basically open source so anyone can make them, therefore it is a lottery weather you get a good one or a pos. b- even with an external power supply the unit cant reach the voltage required without modification.

In the end I junked it and bought a Batronix BX32. Sure it cost a lot more but I now have a 99% success rate, and I think that is down to a faulty eprom rather than the BX32

If you can still use your current one, I say keep it unless you really must have a USB only one

There are a few topics on this if you search the 2600 and hardware forums

They're junk. A total waste of time and money. Even if you do manage to get it to work (as I did) it still won't consistently burn an eprom. I spent two days burning, erasing, burning, erasing, etc. just to program a single 8K program to eprom.

Hi Mimo & Yorgle-

Thanks for your feedback -- I'll steer clear of Willem. I've seen the Batronix at their web site. and I guess I'm now leaning that direction.

Well I only have good things to say about them, all the settings are software controlled unlike the Willams with it's endless jumpers and dip switches
