slosu #1 Posted June 22, 2008 Can Adam games be played on a standard Colecovision? There are a few Adam games that I wouldn't mind owning but I want to make sure first befor I buy them.

theking21083 #3 Posted June 22, 2008 If you are talking about the carts that say for the Adam & Colecovision, then those will work.

I I see...those are ColecoVision games, not Adam games. They're no different than the earlier CV cartridge releases.
slosu #6 Posted June 22, 2008 I'm fairly "new" when it comes to collecting for Colecovision. When it said ADAM on the label it threw me off a little. I just wanted to be a 100% before I bought anything. Thanks all for the quick response! When the video game store opens today you can bet I'll be adding a few more games to my collection!!!! Steve The Adam has a deck that you plug in any CV carts just like on the CV console. So they can be played on the Adam computer system just like you would on a CV,and vice versa, thats all

Inky #9 Posted June 27, 2008 wouldn't mind getting an ADAM the question is...is it worth it? I loved mine. Great versions of DK, DKJr, and especially Zaxxon for it. Plus the ton of "homebrew" stuff that was available was mind blowing. Some really great things.
Rik #10 Posted June 27, 2008 (edited) wouldn't mind getting an ADAM the question is...is it worth it? Depends,if you want to use it for the gaming ,alright, if you want to use it complete as a home computer you'll have to hunt down parts accessories, supplys, which arent that easy to come by. opeygon #11 Posted June 27, 2008 hmmm... interesting hey inky. did they make different versions of dk, dk jr or zaxxon just for the ADAM (i.e. non cv compatible) that were better than their cv compatible counterparts? as for the additional parts and all, i wouldn't mind collecting a complete adam or atari computer system. been dwelling on it for a while now. not sure if i wanna get into that but i can't stop wondering what it would be like! Vic George 2K3 #13 Posted June 28, 2008 I owned both a ColecoVision (actually, my family owned that) and an Adam, and used both types of cartridges (those marked "for ColecoVision" and those marked "for ColecoVision and Adam") on both systems with no problem. theking21083 #15 Posted June 28, 2008 The answer is yes. hey king can you elaborate on this? or can anyone? screenshots perhaps? DK for th ADAM DK JR for the ADAM Zaxxon for the ADAM As you can see DK and DK JR have all 4 levels and Zaxxon has some different levels. These are the versions that only play on the ADAM. Some of the Colecovision games say for the Colecovision & ADAM on the label. They will play on both the Colecovision & ADAM. I have never owned an ADAM so somebody else might be able to explain in better detail then me.

I have never owned an ADAM so somebody else might be able to explain in better detail then me. Those games are generally referred to as the "Super Games". They came on high-speed cassettes (called "datapacks") and later floppies. The Adam pack-in game, Buck Rogers, was a Super Game, and like the other SGs, it was an improved edition of the regular ColecoVision cartridge version. With 64K of RAM, and 160K of available space on datapacks (compared to 1K of RAM and 32K max of cartridge data space of the ColecoVision), the ADAM could support much more elaborate games, the most illustrious of them being (Note: the YouTube video shows the game running under emulation, and the real game runs a bit faster on the real machine). Ze_ro #20 Posted June 29, 2008 For those of you now wanting to get an ADAM, keep in mind that the computer itself is powered through the printer port, with the printer being the only part that's actually plugged into the wall... so you either NEED a printer, or you need to hack together some alternative way to power the system! --Zero

cryinglion #23 Posted July 4, 2008 I thought the DK & DKjr versions for the Adam computer were not officially released because of the rights to the computer versions of these games belonging to Atari. I read somewhere that at an early gaming expo, Coleco was showing off the capabilities of the Adam by doing the demo of DK. At the same time, reps for Atari and Nintendo were in talks about Atari selling Nintendo's upcoming system in the U.S. and when the Atari rep saw the Adam demo, they were pissed and the Nintendo deal fell through. I suppose they were released after Atari's deal with Nintendo went down the drain.
