Most disappointing game you got as a child

Recommended Posts

Hello,

The one game that sticks out in my mind as the most disappointing game I got was "Maze Craze" for the 2600

I remeber looking at the Box art work and thinking that this game was going to be great!!! (I was around 9 at the time)

I got home and was crushed :(

I forget if we brought it back to the store or if my father sold it in the "Bargin Hunters guide"

Well one kid's junk is another kid's treasure!! Cause I absolutely loved Maze Craze!!

The two biggest dissapointments for me were Slot Racers (I was just determined to play it until I liked it) and Pacman, phew what a stinker. I was really big into the arcade pacman, even knew the patterns!

Pac-man, most definately. I remember as a wee lad playing the arcade, and thought it would be the height of cool to have a home version of it. Bleh.

I begged my parents for Maze Craze. It was great.

I remember getting Donkey Kong for Christmas, and just being crushed that it only had 2 levels.

Sky Jinks was another--I never really cared for "Beat the time" games. Activision, had their share of these, with Skiing, Barnstorming, and Sky Jinks, to name a few.

Honestly, I loved all that I had until I turned 11 and got Swordquest Earthworld. I was sooooo, upset at that game I just threw it in the toy box with the other stuff I didn't play with anymore. Those were the days.

Duuuuuuude I love Maze Craze. Me and my buddy used to play it all the time back in the day. Today, it makes a great two-player beer game.

I remember when I was 10 visiting Sydney with my family. We visited a games store, and there were all these games I'd never seen before in the small town I grew up in. Imagic, Parker Bros., Sega and other makers I'd never heard of, and I was allowed to choose one game. After much deliberation, I was about to buy Cosmic Ark.

Enter the salesman, who told me about this super-exclusive new Atari game, "the sequel to Adventure!" "a revolution in gaming!" "forget Imagic - Atari are the masters!" etc. Of course I chose that game, and of course it was Swordquest. I had to wait three weeks to get home to play it, and my anticipation was intense.

When I did finally play it, my first thought was "and here I am, 3000km away from a refund..."

I would've swapped if for another copy of Maze Craze, just to be rid of it. It was years before I trusted an adult again.

Maze craze is a giggling classic. I played it with my friends back in the day and we'd use every different board throughout the session start to finish and it would take quite a bit of time to complete, if I remember, that way. The best was always just sneaking by for the win, giggles galore. Still is and the same thing happens now when I play vs my daughter as she loves maze craze too. To each their own but Maze Craze rocks!

Dragster I always hated but maybe because I suck at it? :x

But even so I think its boring

Dragster is the only race the clock game that I love. It's so much fun to learn different techniques to shave off a fraction of a second of your time. When playing 2 player it's so much fun when you start out losing but start picking up speed and overtake your opponent at the finish line. I would say that Casino was the most dissapointing game that we got when I was a child. My dad loved it, but as a kid I wasn't into card games.

I'll second "Swordquest: Earthworld" I remember dying to have it, go it the day it came out, got it home, played it for maybe and I mean maybe 30 mins, and then giving it to a kid down the street for Laser Blast.

I think the one game that disappointed me the most was Hangman. I never liked playing Hangman, whether it be on paper, the blackboard or Atari. Blech!

I remember my family picking up Keystone Kapers, and they all hated it enough to return it and exchange it for Centipede before I even had a chance to play it. I guess I'm not disappointed with the game itself, but with the fact that I didn't at least get to try it.

That is a Good one especially since it appeared to be this great game before hand.

Talk about hype huh! Yes all 3 Swordquests are pretty lame gameplay if you ask me.

Swordquest: Earthworld was a real let-downer of a game. My brother bought this one when it was marked down to about $5 or so. I ended up buying Fireworld just for the comic book, and that game wasn't any better than Earthworld.

Of course, the bulk of my 2600 acquisitions that were part of my first 2600 game collection were when I was a teenager, and ended in my early 20s.

Donkey Kong Jr. for the Atari 2600 - I wanted Popeye instead but we got DK Jr. instead. We played through it, but it's nothing like the arcade game. It doesn't have all the levels and the graphics were weak. DK Jr. looked awful and Donkey Kong still looked like a chipmunk!

I don't believe I was ever really disappointed as a kid in 2600 games because by the time I was able to start getting games of my own, the NES era had already began. For me, I found fascination in "pushing the funny looking man around with the stick", so every 2600 game appealed to me. However, I wish my brother were able to comment on it. I'm sure he would've had some reservations about certain games.

Most disappointing game I got recently is not related to gameplay but number of players. As the only gamer in the household, it's rather difficult to enjoy a game that was absolutely meant (or requires) two or more players. Such as Indy 500, Slot Racers, and to a lesser extent, even Warlords (although in a 4-player free-for-all, that game is a blast! :D )

If I could put the 2600 pac-man in a maze craze maze to die I would!

My dad made a big deal of getting pac-man for my brother and I,and we just didn't have the heart to tell him that it sucked.Wasn't it like $65.00 when it first came out?

I can't believe no one mentioned it yet. THe game I waited and begged my parents to buy. It was my first had to have it game. THe one with so much hype and advertising.......... ..\\ Drum roll please......

ET.

I to this day still have no idea what the hell I'm doing in it. Like a cross between Raiders of the lost Ark and monkey brains. Just when you think it can't get any crazier you yawn to fly out of a pit you still don't know how you fell into....

Like most people Pac-Man was the king of let downs, but I would also have to say that Haunted House was another.

I think it would have to be Star Raiders. The allure of that controller overwhelmed me into the purchase. Either I just didn't give it a chance or I was a dummy, I hadn't tried it since. I took it back to the store, and they did give me my money back (Hill's).

I wanted anything that came with a controller unfortunately they were mostly let downs. Star Raiders was one I would agree with..
