Flashcart and Multicart List - All systems

The 3rd batch for the HyperFlash32 flashcard for the VirtualBoy is open right now.

https://www.retroonyx.com/

It's a flashcard that uses MicroSD cards and a build-in e-Ink display !

You select the game on the flashcard itself, then insert it in the VirtualBoy to play it.

Pretty interesting design.

Don't be late for the 3rd batch!

This is intriguing though it's a bit overengineered for my needs (which is a fancy way of saying that a cheaper, less fancy cart would be more my usual speed).

Still, I'm sure the e-Ink interface offers some neat perks. Does it require any Windows-only tools?

There is a HyperFlasher GUI developed by Thunderstruck, an end user of HF32.  I believe its cross platform.  The purpose of the eInk and on cart controls is that you never need a computer, if you don't want to use one.  Except for loading the ROM files onto the SD card.  Otherwise a simple terminal program on any platform is all that is needed for development.

I'm the designer of the HyperFlash32 cart.  Is it over the top?  Yeah.  Is it fun?  For sure.  But I'll say I've converted a lot of people who thought the eInk wasn't that great of an idea.  If eInk isn't your thing, HF32 also has a lot of developer optimized and focused features that are accessible through command line over USB that are much faster and efficient than the past FlashBoy VB flash cart.  Those tools have also been developed by the Thunderstruck of HyperFlasher.  Programming times are significantly faster than in the past.

Many of the features of HF32 were also end user requested.  Personally I nearly dropped the eInk and cap touch stuff because I also thought it was over the top.  But I'm very glad I didn't.  It's been my most popular and fun project by far.  But I can also understand if its not everyone's cup of tea.

If anyone has any other questions, concerns, or wants to vent, you can find me at RetroOnyx.com, as well as on the PlanetVB.com Discord channel in the "mellotts-garage" subchannel.  I'm also on YouTube under mellott124, if you want to see videos of HF32 working.  Thanks!

Hey, I appreciate your candid and polite reply! I'll admit that the price is slightly daunting but I'm willing to support a creative and adventuresome effort, especially if it's 100% cross-platform-accessible (it's very frustrating when a key tool is Windows-only) and your buyers to date have been enthusiastic.

So, I'm sold: expect my pre-order presently! :D

I want to get that gameboy everdrive (flash cart?).  My virtual boy is broken though.  I lent it to someone who worked in a game store about ten years ago and after it was returned it didn't work anymore :(   Is it even worth it?  i was never too impressed with the vb.

edit- the cover art for that vb cart is great too!

Yeah the price is a bit out there for something I rarely play like the VB.  I have the VB Flash that allows you to load one game on at a time.  It's not as convenient, but given that there's only 4 or 5 VB games worth playing, it works well enough.

Is the virtual boy even really 3d?  I've used it so many times on a variety of games (well i only have 4) and none of it seemed 3D to me.  It looked like I was playing on a red graphing calculator.   Was the 3D just market speak?  What exactly was 3D about it?  i can definitely see in 3D because the PSVR I think works very well.  I've never watched a 3D television.. are those really 3D too?

AAMOI www.vintex64.com will soon be selling my Virtual Boy FlashBoy+ cart.

Reproduction cartridge for like $70 each? I would still go for the HyperFlash32..

You can see the depth in the games. So the answer is: yes.

Question about the Super Everdrive X5 - Gonna grab one since they're cheap and the handful of games that don't work I either don't care about or own them already. How does it save games (or does it?) I've seen reviews, some say it does, I've also seen that there is no ability to save. Also, where it *does* mention saving games it says it can save file sizes up to 128mb. Are save game files ever larger than that?

TIA!   🙂

I saw that Phode news on retrorgb and wanted to see if there was any chatter yet. It looks VERY promising. I may do one for CD-I. I wonder if it will also support 3DO as a replacement option for the expensive stand alone. My guess on the 'mysteries' teased are support for Amiga CD32 and Jaguar CD. Playstation is interesting, but MiSTer is my go-to now.
