PsychedelicShaman #2328 Posted June 17, 2019 News from TerraOnion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fE0GR9prQE&feature=em-lsp With the NeoSD, you can now load CD games with a firmware update? That's the gist I got. Announced the MegaSD. This is not a replacement for the Sega CD optical drive, it's a complete replacement for the Sega CD. You can play Sega CD games from the Genesis with no Sega CD plugged in. Looks to be an all-in-one flash cart as well.
Greg2600 #2329 Posted June 17, 2019 https://shop.terraonion.com/en/products/16-megasd_megacd_segacd_fpga_cartridge.html Yeah, this will basically replace the Mega Everdrive (if you had one of those) as it runs Genesis, Master System and 32X (with the mushroom). Plus it does all the niceties like saving and whatnot. Stone Age Gamer announced they will eventually carry this and offer some type of prior Mega ED trade in. I will likely go with them once it's available.
Tanooki #2330 Posted June 18, 2019 Wouldn't it be wise to let someone be the guinea pig on that TO device? Their last time around doing an optical hardware emulator was for the PCE and that disaster spread out over a year covered in threats, personal attacks, forum trolling, trying to gag the very people with the intelligence to fix it (each revision no less when it still wasn't right.) Maybe the PCE is far worse than the Sega CD, but given the price they attach to their products I'd think people would be a bit cautious.
Gentlegamer #2331 Posted June 18, 2019 I'm definitely waiting to see reviews and let the early adopters take the hit on the MegaSD.
Greg2600 #2332 Posted June 18, 2019 Well stoneage won't have it until fall the earliest. I did wait awhile for the turbo SSD3 and it works fine to me.

That and the Turbo/PCe thing (even if I need to mod the bay hat plugs in the back to fit my turbo). Or just buy a coregrafx ii... 😀

I don't really *need* it at this moment in time (my Neo-Geo CD has probably been the most reliable of my CD units, especially in terms of reading CDr discs), but it's great to know someone is working on a solution for it. Skunkboard for Jaguar can still be purchased (https://www.sellmyretro.com/offer/details/skunkboard-flash-cardridge-for-jaguar-27561) Doesn't list the Everdrive GB under the Gameboy section (https://krikzz.com/store/home/46-everdrive-gb.html) Doesn't list the NeoGeo Pocket SD under the NGPC section (https://www.retrohq.co.uk/category/hardware/neogeo-pocket)

Tanooki #2346 Posted November 16, 2019 I'd love at some rate to get one for a Pokemon Mini handheld, then get one of thsoe handhelds again. The 2nd hand market is cutthroat nasty on those games, especially Tetris and others the US missed. There is a kit for that?

Greg2600 #2349 Posted December 11, 2019 (edited) NeoGeo CD optical drive replacement - SD card game loader http://furrtek.free.fr/sdloader/#reg Loading times reduced x4 on average (compared to 1x CD drive) No more scratched CDs and dead lasers Non-destructive installation DIP-switch and region settings Backup and restore saves to the SD card Customisable menu Easy firmware updates Can co-exist with the original optical drive Debug your game without having to burn 100 CDs It could be called an ODE (Optical Drive Emulator) because the benefits are similar, but technically speaking it isn't really one. It doesn't simulate an optical drive, it provides the console with a direct interface to an SD card and patches the BIOS to load games from it instead. From an user standpoint though, it doesn't change much. You can register for his waiting list. The first kits will be ready between december 2019 and january 2020. Price: 75.00€ Paypal fee included. See xe.com to convert in another currency. No pre-orders. Payment will be requested only when kits are ready to ship. Max 2 orders per address, except if you provide installation services (and can prove it). Edited December 11, 2019 by Greg2600
