GameboyReviewer #1 Posted June 23, 2008 I just wanted to tell everyone that I'm working on a atari 2600 fan flick about the system, why were still fans, the best and worst of the games. Also why we stand strong and tall. I just wanted to know whats your fav game and if you guys have any suggestions on games?
Sayton #2 Posted June 23, 2008 (edited) I was trying to get a documentary on something like this a while back. It fell through, though. Wouldn't mind doing one on E.T. with some peeps. I don't have a "fave" game (there are so many awesome VCS games!) but my main game is E.T., no joke. It's a great and fun game...I'm sure after reading this you'll be dying to know why, huh? If so, ask away OR check out my E.T. vids, link at the bottom here. But anyways, I'm an E.T. fan! And even though "Sayton" is my screen name on here, I was given the nickname "The_Legend" so that's what I go by. Real crazy story on how I got that name too, but it's stuck around here. classicgamingguy #3 Posted June 23, 2008 That sounds like a great idea! My favorite games for the Atari 2600 system are: Ms. Pac-Man Asteroids Space Invaders Missile Command Demon Attack Pitfall Perhaps you could go into something on Pac-Man, how disappointed we all were that it wasn't "arcade faithful" and what it was like when we all first played it on your VCS's. Gregory DG #8 Posted June 23, 2008 (edited) If I were to do a doc like this, I'd mention the most popular games briefly and then highlight some of the lesser known (but still fun, no crap allowed) games. Too often the games mentioned for the 2600 include Asteroids, Pac-Man, Space Invaders, and other commons almost exclusively. It's as if those were the only games ever made for the system! Sheesh... classicgamingguy #9 Posted June 23, 2008 Of course they weren't the only games made for the system. I'm remembering the ones I like the most and the ones I had access to when I was a kid. Arcade classics are my favorite in any event, but there are many, many, MANY good games on the Atari 2600!! Another few favorites (today and back in the day): Megamania Demon Attack Star Voyager Star Master And I really could go on and on and on...but I won't. +Nathan Strum #10 Posted June 24, 2008 Favorite 2600 game of all time?: Toughie. Probably Demon Attack. What is it I like about that game?: I was blown away by the graphics when it first came out, but the gameplay is was keeps me coming back to it. It's one game I never seem to get tired of or frustrated with. When I first played the 2600?: Not sure. But I bought mine on 8-10-81. So probably some months before that. What is my "2600" these days?: A/V modded Sears six-switch - my original from back-in-the-day. If you're speaking metaphorically, it's still my 2600. What got me into the 2600 then?: Missile Command. It was the first arcade port that really looked like the original, and the overall quality of games was picking up for the system at that time. Asteroids and Laser Blast were a couple of other early acquisitions. What keeps me in the 2600 now?: The homebrew scene. Both playing the amazing new games being developed, and being part of the scene by contributing to it.
classicgamingguy #11 Posted June 24, 2008 I'd have to give a "two thumbs up" for Demon Attack. The music is intense when the waves start heating up. Makes you nervous and on edge and you try to blast the demons. Great game in general from Imagic, one of the better Space Invader clones that were available.
