Atari Master #1 Posted June 25, 2008 (edited) How this hasn't been posted on a website full of classic gamers is beyond me. I just bought it. It's sort of like what Pac-Man CE did for Pac-Man, accept maybe better overall. If you asked me its like they took the core of Space Invaders, took the stange changing and utter chaos of Pac-Man CE, and mixed it with a bit of Rez for the final game. It's awesome, and I <3 it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_Y07gF5EIo Only $19.99, on DS/PSP. Edited June 25, 2008 by Atari Master

Kind of takes the classic and warps the concept. Lots of fun though. The music and colors remind me of both Rez and Lummines. I LIKE IT! -Lee
Lord Helmet #5 Posted June 27, 2008 I picked up the PSP version yesterday. Really fun. I would be cool as an XBLA game as well (it feels like the cousin of Pac-Man CE)
Ze_ro #6 Posted July 4, 2008 I bought the PSP version too... seems a bit harder to find than the DS version. Anyways, the game is pretty awesome... Almost like a Jeff Minter remake. --Zero
4ever2600 #7 Posted July 5, 2008 I picked it up myself tonight for the PSP, and it's incredible! Highly recommended! I like the PSP version better and is why I purchased it for that system. Bigger screen, better FX... DS version split screen, smaller screen, it was ok...
dreamcastrip #8 Posted July 5, 2008 I've got it for DS with the Taito "spinner" controller which is awesome. It can also be used with the new DS Arkanoid game.
+atari2600land #9 Posted July 6, 2008 Why should I buy it if I already have Space Invaders Revolution?
Wickeycolumbus #10 Posted July 6, 2008 What version is better? I have both a psp and ds.
cvga #11 Posted July 6, 2008 Where can you buy the spinner controller?
mimo #12 Posted July 6, 2008 I imported mine from play-asia.com

hex65000 #14 Posted July 8, 2008 My copy of Space Invaders came in today. It is good stuff, and reasonably challenging too. I only got to the third stage before I got killed, but it is good stuff. I now understand the comments on the distracting background. I got shot a couple times because of that. Hex. Lord Helmet #15 Posted July 8, 2008 Not sure about the DS version , but on the PSP version you can turn off the background.
liveinabin #16 Posted July 9, 2008 Played the PSP demo yesterday. My god, what an awesome game! That's how to reinvigorate a tired concept. I'll be picking that up.
BrianC #17 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Not sure about the DS version , but on the PSP version you can turn off the background. The background can be turned off in the DS version as well. The dead space between screens can be adjusted too. I just picked it up recently. It's awesome so far. I'm liking the modern shooter elements and scoring systems, the power ups, and the variety of different invaders. Graphics and sound are excellent for DS. I like how the sound effects are integrated with the music. Edited July 10, 2008 by BrianC
Warriorisabouttodie #18 Posted July 10, 2008 Why should I buy it if I already have Space Invaders Revolution? 2 different games, no comparison. I have it for the DS and it is a surprisingly great!!!
NE146 #19 Posted July 10, 2008 I bought both the DS version and imported the PSP version from Play-Asia because I'm a Space Invaders freak like that The PSP verson is very nice.. looks great. The DS version has some nice little changes in the situations you get into as a result of the dual-screen gameplay. Hard to say which I like better at this point. Why should I buy it if I already have Space Invaders Revolution? What are you kidding? They're totally different games Go friggin buy the DS version as it's a piddly $
n8littlefield #20 Posted July 21, 2008 I've got it for DS with the Taito "spinner" controller which is awesome. It can also be used with the new DS Arkanoid game. Have you played the Arkanoid game yet? I'm considering importing the spinner if it's good too - I hate to import it just for Space Invaders.
+uosipa llamxew #21 Posted September 16, 2008 Sorry to bump a dead thread, but... Will an imported paddle work with the US versions of Space Invaders Extreme and Arkanoid? I should have asked this question before buying both games.
bones #22 Posted September 16, 2008 Yes, import spinner works just fine with the US versions of both games. Both games are fun without the spinner, but adding that in takes them to a whole new level. I'm packing for a trip and the DS with spinner/Arkanoid/SI Extreme is at the top of the heap.
+Random Terrain #23 Posted September 16, 2008 You know it's extreme because the E is backwards! The game was recalled and renamed: Coked Up Disco Nightmare Space Invaders Extreme to the Max
dreamcastrip #24 Posted September 18, 2008 I've got it for DS with the Taito "spinner" controller which is awesome. It can also be used with the new DS Arkanoid game. Have you played the Arkanoid game yet? I'm considering importing the spinner if it's good too - I hate to import it just for Space Invaders. Yep, I totally adore Arkanoid DS. Its second only to Mario Kart DS in my collection as the most played game for that handheld. The renowned Retro Gamer magazine reviewed it in last month's issue and only gave it 50-something percent which I was utterly appalled at. OK, its not without its faults such as many of the levels having quite a narrow playing field and the graphics are fairly functional but the playability is so fantastic that I'll switch it on for a quick go and still be on it over an hour later. It plays absolutely fine with the d-pad although I've not tried it with the stylus yet. Taito's spinner controller just adds a bit of panache to the overall experience as it obviously more closely simulates the controls of the original Break Out coin-op. I ordered my spinner controller from Play-Asia also when it first came out. I wanted a white one to match my DS Lite but as that colour was out of stock everywhere at the time I went for the silver one over the pink one . With DS Lite it sticks out a few mm but its still a secure fit. I may have said this before elsewhere I think but all my gaming prayers would be answered if Jeff Minter ever ported Tempest 2000 or an update of Tempest for DS utilising the spinner controller.
