Is Combat really 1 or 2 players?

Recommended Posts

I've never been able to play 1 player Combat, the other tank or plane never fights back. The manual says that it is 1 or 2 players though. Is there a way to "play against the computer"

Where does the manual say it's for 1 player?

There were a few attempts at a one player combat. I believe they are called Combat AI and Tank AI.

Oh how I wish they got finished.

That brings back a funny memory.

As everyone else, I had my first Combat cart at a tender young age, and no one to play with. My brother had recently moved out, so I played Combat by myself plenty of times. My parents were less than interested in playing the game with me, so many times I'd duke it out with the "dead" target.

I was in the boat of not many friends to play this game (by the time I got one, everybody had Nintendo's and couldn't give a shit less about Atari) But I played it myself a lot, see how many times you could hit the tank befor time ran out, perfecting the bank and curve shots (I always thought it was funny how the bullet followed the front of your tank as you turned) and trying to shoot it and make it go where I wanted it to go without leaving my one spot.

But eh...yeah, Combat is intended to be two playered. The tank's and planes won't do anything without a second player (or maybe you could rig a NES controller to work on Atari and have ROB play with you  )
