Godzilla #1 Posted July 1, 2008 Nice bit of ol dusty atari action, with eve and wall-e. I didn't quite recognize the paddles tho. Anyone else see this amazing movie? The end credits are great and start out with some very simple 2600-ish block graphics that become a little more detailed. (and then start playing something like make trax.) RickHarrisMaine #2 Posted July 2, 2008 The movie was incredible, what a touching story. and my 8 year old son pointed out to my 6 year old, "Tate, that's an Atari, it was the first videogame!"
almightytodd #3 Posted July 2, 2008 I dunno... They go to the trouble of rendering a beat-up old 2600, but then when it plays, the graphics are from coin-op pong. Perhaps they could have gone with Combat, the original 2600 Pac Man, or even E.T. (...which would have made a nice subtext of technology ending up as garbage in a land-fill). Also, since this is supposed to be happening in some distant future, wouldn't it make more sense to be showing a current console (PS3, XBox 360) as "garbage of the future"? WALL-E's television is a video iPod with a fresnel lens in front of it - which was a quite stunning effect of CGI (...although I'm not sure how WALL-E was able to hook up a VCR and an Atari 2600 to it...). +TrekMD #4 Posted July 3, 2008 I just saw this movie last night and it was excellent. Very touching story. It was great seeing the Atari 2600 in there! It's remarkable what they do with CGI nowadays.

Perhaps they could have gone with Combat, the original 2600 Pac Man, or even E.T. The point though, was that Pong was iconic, and the black and white version is instantly recognizable, whereas the colored graphics of Video Olympics are less so. Also, it played up the point that he was by himself, since the score was something like 8,000 to 0. I've just posted a spoiler-free Wall-E review in my blog. In short - I thought it was awesome. Video #9 Posted July 9, 2008 The Wall.e Game was pretty good too. I picked it up for the PC (mainly cause I was bored) and it's kinda neat...never saw the movie though. Wonder if it's still playing? If not, I could pick it up on DVD later, Pixar movies tend to be worth having from my experiance.

Maybe he's playing a homebrew recreation of arcade Pong? Also, since this is supposed to be happening in some distant future, wouldn't it make more sense to be showing a current console (PS3, XBox 360) as "garbage of the future"? Yeah, good luck finding an XBox 360 that still works 70 years from now, much less 700 years from now. Now a 2600 I can believe.
Godzilla #12 Posted July 10, 2008 can anyone else tell if those are real atari paddles, some obscure 3rd party (they sorta looked like black apple 2 paddles iirc,) or something made for the movie that fit walle's claws better...
SRGilbert #13 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) can anyone else tell if those are real atari paddles, some obscure 3rd party (they sorta looked like black apple 2 paddles iirc,) or something made for the movie that fit walle's claws better...It was hard to tell, but I think it was meant to be the 2600 paddle. Wall-E's a pretty small robot, so the paddle looked bigger than you'd expect. Edited July 10, 2008 by SRGilbert
