zach1845 #1 Posted July 2, 2008 While at a yard sale last weekend at around 3 pm I picked up some very rare PS1 game such as Ogre battle, Suikoden II, Valkre profile, Azure Dreams Persona and around 10 other RPG's Most of which are worth 30.00 to 100.00 each. The Point is that this sale was on a major highway and was saturday at 3pm. The sale started on friday morning and these games were 1.00 each. You would think someone would have grabbed them me But many people at yard sales are looking for stuff other then video games.
Ghost Soldier #2 Posted July 2, 2008 I consider this the luck of the draw. I often wonder how I can walk away in the middle of the day with good stuff.

Reaperman #4 Posted July 2, 2008 (edited) I guess I'd better find something more popular to collect then. Nice find though. Generally with yard sales there's nothing but patio furniture and filthy baby clothes. I'm guessing people who go there know the deal and are only looking for that kind of stuff. I gave up on yard sales years ago. There was rarely anything even slightly interesting, and when I did find something, there was some unpleasantness related to the assumption that I had a ton of money on me that I loved to spend it all at yard sales... I really think it was racial prejudice. Edited July 2, 2008 by Reaperman
christianscott27 #5 Posted July 2, 2008 You gotta figure its a very small subset of people who know the value of playstation RPGs. I'm a longtime collector and frequent game hunter but I've never learned about any rare PS1 games. I probably would have passed on em unless they looked imported or distinctive like the old Working Designs games. I've had the same sort of experience with other platforms, NES Tengen Tetris for example is utterly unremarkable unless you're part of the scene. fiddlepaddle #6 Posted July 2, 2008 Garage sales are hard work for buyers, because one must usually drive from house to house, and only a few of those are likely to have video games. Garage sales are also hard work for the sellers as well, even though it looks like all they do is sit around...try it sometime. Not only that, but a seller will often lower prices on certain kinds of things as the day progresses, especially if the item is big and heavy or otherwise difficult to get rid of (I'll often find a big ol' exercise machine with a free sign on it sitting at the edge of the driveway on Saturday afternoons). Combine these things with the fact that most garage sale buyers expect a true bargain and usually won't pay very much, and most aren't looking for video games either. Sellers who wanted too much for their "classic Atari" at 8AM may practically give it away at 5PM. After all, if it doesn't sell, it's just more stuff to cart off to Salvation Army tomorrow. the.golden.ax #7 Posted July 3, 2008 They may have fallen out of a damaged postal box and been added to their yard sale mid-day. J/K (I'm missing some great titles like those, MIA in the mail). I had a yard sale last year with every console and games for every system. Ran ads in the paper and even put up nice signs. We sold BABY CLOTHS, $200 worth, a hose, and a refrigerator. NOT ONE, STINKING, SINGLE GAME. My prices were exceedingly low ( you could have resold them online ) no one even looked. Anyways, if you ever want to sell any of those good games let me know. I'm more than happy to pay a reasonable medium between the online price and your price AX
tremoloman2006 #8 Posted July 3, 2008 I've got to Goodwill, Salvation Army, and loads of yard sales in my area... yet to see a single game for sale at ANY of them. "Junk and baby clothes" pretty much sums up my luck thus far.
Atari5200 #9 Posted July 3, 2008 there's someone in my area, don't know who, but I discovered it at a big neighborehood yard sale, I was 10 seconds too late on a big NES score when I discovered my "rival".
+atari2600land #10 Posted July 3, 2008 I did a garage sale. It was boring just sitting there listening to music. But I might do it again. Throw in some dupe Atari 2600 games in the sale just to see if anyone cares. Who wants Journey Escape? Probably no one. I have had moderate success at Value Village, but not quite as much recently. And I have found NOTHING at flea markets and garage sales yet.
jhd #11 Posted July 4, 2008 I go to about 5-6 garage sales per year (I don't have a car, so I just hit those in my neighbourhood). As noted by others, most of the sales just have piles of old household goods and furniture. I have only once seen anything video-game related and that was 6-7 years ago. (I think it was a NES or SNES). My other (main) collecting interest is books, and even finding something more inspiring than paperback romanc novels at a garage sale is an unusual occurance.
