smalz #28 Posted August 18, 2008 Kintaro on MKII for the snes is impossible for me, I've beaten him in the first round and get my ass handed to me in the next 2. I'm stuck in rogue galaxy.. I beat the two kings in the towers and can't figure out where 2 go even with a walkthrough.. I had 2 use a walkthrough for dragon warrior/quest. It's lame I know, I shouldn't give up so easily. 2600Lives #29 Posted August 18, 2008 Three words. Super. Macho. Man. I can hand Tyson's ASS to him almost every single time, but good lord, Mach beats me to hell every single time I fight him! He's even worse than the last guy in Super Punch Out!
vdub_bobby #30 Posted August 18, 2008 Mega Man (the first) for me...I've since lost the game, but I never could beat Dr. Wily. Tried many times...and failed. That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head that I tried and failed and tried and failed and tried and failed to beat. Plenty of games I haven't/couldn't beat, but not too many that I beat my head against the wall with. At least not many that I remember...

shadow460 #33 Posted August 19, 2008 (edited) Ultimecia on the PS1 version of Final Fantasy 8. I'm about to take my first crack at her in a few minutes. I've beaten her many times on the PC version, and I expect to have little difficulty with her. I walked all over Omega Weapon last night for the first time in this version. Even without the Holy War and Heroes I would have lived, as he only got half a dozen turns. I think Rinoa hit Omega with 5 or 6 meteors (remember, ten rocks per spell) for every turn he took. Each individual rock was doing 7,000 points of damage. I tried calling on Angelo a couple of times, then said forget this and switched to Angel Wing. All she cast was Meteor--that's it. Of course, I planned it that way. You don't even need to guess what Squall was doing, and Selphie was the "medic" (like I needed one). Yup, Ultimecia's gonna get hit with a black hole, some dolphins maybe, a few ordinary bullets, many gunblade attacks, some random magic spells (from Selphie), and a whole slew of Meteors. Let her blow the Meteor away, and she might just get bit by Rinoa's dog! EDIT: Ulty died quick! Edited August 19, 2008 by shadow460
godslabrat #34 Posted August 19, 2008 Hi guys: I would say Battletoads. I had that particular game since 1991 & I still can't come even close on defeating it! Battletoads-- I second that one. Probably the closest the NES ever came to the Atari's have-pixel-perfect-timing-or-die style of games. I still can't play any Castlevania game worth a damn. I like the games, but they mop the floor with me. OTOH, I've noticed I got much better at Mario games, Blaster Master, Contra, Bionic Commando, and have even seen improvements in how I play Ninja Gaiden. It seems that there are some benefits to getting older!
kamakazi #35 Posted August 19, 2008 The most complicated game I came across on the NES was Blaster Master...I kept getting my ass stomped by the crab boss in level five...then the GAME GENIE came out and I managed to beat that game. Never beat Castlevania 1 or 3, but 2 is a cakewalk. Anyone ever finish Journey to Silius (Sunsoft) without a cheat? And I agree with everyone else on Ninja Gaiden...Beautiful game as far as the NES goes...but I'd like to know what gamer ticked off the programmers. Final Fantasy 7 was easy...long but easy. Had to have a guide for 8 and 9. Phantasy Star 3 was awesome!! Had trouble with 1 and 2 though. Never could find my way around those. The Tyson version of Punch Out!! was challenging, but not unbeatable. Oh...and don't use a PS2 Game Shark while playing Final Fantasy X...it will lock up the game right at the end!! At least it did on mine. One of my favorite games was Tempest 2000 for the Jaguar. Yep...got my butt royally stomped about level 50. The one game I really can't beat is Star Raiders on the 5200/400/800 consoles set on expert. That's a witch!! Earth Defense Force on SNES was cool, but could never get past the stage next to the last one. Talk about everything being thrown at you including the kitchen sink. I'm currently working on Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2 for the Dreamcast and notice after advancing so far into the game that the sounds seem to fall behind...which annoys me and makes me lose interest in the game completely...then I switch to Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3 for PS2. I'm also working on RockBand for PS2, the Medium and Hard levels make me worry about what expert is like...I'm sure that I DON'T want to know. Some other games that others might try... Banjo Kazooie (N64), Burnout Revenge (XBOX 360, PS2), Gran Turismo 2 & 4 (PS1 & PS2 respectively), Rush 2049 (Dreamcast, N64), Platoon (NES), Destination Earthstar (NES), Phantasy Star (SMS). And did anyone ever collect all the Pokemon in a single Pokemon game for ANY Nintendo console?
Shawn #36 Posted August 19, 2008 You're thinking of Mr. Dream and Tyson. Super Macho Man's routine is more like Soda Popinski's. Yes your right I was thinking of Dream. Also I find alot of games I can beat on normal and hard but as soon as it's ramp it up to expert or very hard it's lights out real quick ..lol.. I remeber it taking forever for me to beat MK1 on very hard when I got for the genesis back in the day.
AtticGamer #37 Posted August 19, 2008 Quake 3 on Nightmare. Street Fighter Alpha 3. There are others, but those are so hard I won't even try (eg.: Street Fighter).
shadow460 #38 Posted August 20, 2008 Castlevania 1 requires quick fingers and some patience. It does repeat all six levels, so be prepared. The last boss battle is a sight to behold, and well worth the effort. You probablyalready know you get extra lives every 50,000 points up to a score of 1 million. After that, the only extra lives you get are the ones you find. Go ahead and mass kill enemies for bonuses, get your lives to max, and the game will become quite easy. As for Final Fantasy, overall 7 is the hardest I've played. That's not counting different ports of the same game, though. If you're used to games that cut your abilities back so that there's always a challenege (Enemy Zero, SaGa 3, etc), you will have little trouble with FF8. I've never played FF9. FFX and FFX-2 just don't have the challenge present, although they do try. One I try to avoid, but can eventually beat is Jagurandi from Virtual On: Operation Moongate. It takes me a few tries to whip him usually.
2600Lives #39 Posted August 20, 2008 It's Macho Man's freakin' spin punch that does me in EVERY time. I can duck the first few, but then HE DOESN'T STOP THROWING THEM, and I lose the timing. Down for the count every time. And, of course, I've never made it through Dragon's Lair for the NES. Damn did that game suck.
madhatter667 #40 Posted August 21, 2008 Super Mario Brothers 2 (US)...I still can't get far into world 7, which is the last one in the game. It's soooo close... but nope! Ninja Gaiden for the XBox. That game is actually hard! Castlevania: SOTN. I love this game...and I have had it since '99 when I got my PSX...still haven't beat it. There are other ones of course, just not off the top of my head.
vdub_bobby #41 Posted August 22, 2008 Ninja Gaiden for the XBox. That game is actually hard! Yes, hard - but so absolutely awesome! Where are you stuck?
Dryfter #42 Posted August 22, 2008 The most complicated game I came across on the NES was Blaster Master...I kept getting my ass stomped by the crab boss in level five...then the GAME GENIE came out and I managed to beat that game. Blaster Master is one of my all time favorite games for the NES. I was a frosh in college when I finished it. My roommate and I had a competition to see who could finish it first. Since the system was mine, I had it over Xmas break and I finished it first. I actually had the system hooked up through a VCR so I could record the actual gameplay so he'd beleive me. haha My other favorite game was Contra, I finally got to the point where I finished that game without dieing once No one believes me on that one though! It was a really tough game. I'm sure I could finish the game now without using the cheat. I never had a game genie. Here's one that I'm sure very few have played. It was a TG-16 (Turboduo) game called Cadash. It was unbelievably frustrating. There were no "checkpoints" so if you died, it was back to the beginning of the level every time and the levels were really long. I think I got to the 3rd or 4th level at the most. Just thinking about that game now gets me frustrated...lol
midnight magicman #44 Posted August 23, 2008 The 2nd incarnation of Drac in Castlevania. I'm glad someone mentioned Castlevania 1. I was afraid I'd be the only one on here mentioning that. Someday I'll try it again. I agree that Super Macho was much harder than Tyson. Tyson's patterns were much easier to memorize/read I felt. Peace

Many years went by before I beat this one. I'm a huge Castlevania fan and beat EVERY Castlevania game that I ever played except CV1. I finally beat it a couple of years ago and I had the greatest feeling ever!!! Castlevania was the first game that ever made me so frustrated - it was a precursor to the hell of Ninja Gaiden. Way back when it came up in the high score contest, I watched a youtube speedrun which showed how to use holy water. Suddenly the game appeared to have a weakness, and I got much further by playing it that way. It practically feels like cheating but the game deserves it. I didn't beat it, but the idea of doing so actually seems conceivable now.
vdub_bobby #48 Posted August 25, 2008 Castlevania was one of those games I just could NOT beat as a kid. I always would get stuck at Frankenstein's monster (and Igor). But I replayed it during the HSC and...it wasn't as hard as I remembered. Though it is still hard. But Dracula isn't the hardest boss; the grim reaper is, by far.
