kamakazi #51 Posted August 26, 2008 That password does take you to Tyson directly. I beat SMB2, using warps of course. Can't for the life of me now remember where the heck they are though. On a side note, I know I could beat Stinger (NES) with little effort and if you wait for the demo to pop-up, you can actually somewhat control the blue ship...but you have to fight the computer's movements. LifeForce was one of my favorite (NES) titles. And who could forget the all-famous Konami cheat code: U, U, D, D, L, R, L, R, B, A, START On most Konami games, this will get you 30 lives (Contra, LifeForce and others). Use the code backwards on games made by Konami's sister-company Ultra. One of the toughest TG-16 games I never could beat was that stupid game that came packed with the system I got. Can't remember the name of the game though. I wanna say Keith Courage In Alpha Zone. Streets of Rage 2 was fun...but got really hard the closer you got to the end. Blaze was my favorite character in that game. I managed to beat Sonic 1 once with all emeralds...never could do it again. Sonic CD was more challenging but fun. Beat it too. And could somebody please tell me what a Boy and His Blob was about? Guardian Legend was a good game and easy to beat...it's counter-part (or seemed like) ZANAC was a witch. Never could beat that game. Double Dragon II on the NES was fun and not to difficult, but I'd keep getting sucked out of the helicopter. And does anyone remember that NES Sport Pad? I found it more useful for making someone a bed on the floor. One of my all-time favorite games was for PS-One called A-Train by Maxis...I never could find it to buy, but did rent it very often. And I've never been able to beat either Gran Turismo 3 or 4...but did get all gold in the license tests . Mega Man 2 was one of my favorites of the Mega Man series...that dog just seemed to be a pain in the remaining sequels. Metriod still remains my favorite Nintendo made game. Anyone here ever tried beating 3-D Worldrunner but me and succeeded? I did!
mbd30 #52 Posted August 27, 2008 The trick to beating Tyson is knowing how to avoid the opening onslaught of deadly uppercuts. The sprite flashes a little bit right before each uppercut which is your cue. And with some practice you'll instinctively know when to dodge. But don't hold the directional button for long. You want to press and release fast in order to "quick dodge" so you can get right in with your counter punches. Then you should be able to deal with his less lethal attack. He's still challenging, but not quite so brutal as he's reputed to be. Another fighter who seems insurmountable at first is "Hoy Quarlow" from "Super Punch-Out". It took me the longest time to figure out his patterns. Then he's a cakewalk.
PressureCooker2600 #53 Posted August 27, 2008 I still lack a copy of Super Punch-Out............no one EVER has a copy and I LOVE that game. But not as much as the original.
PressureCooker2600 #54 Posted August 27, 2008 I agree that Super Macho was much harder than Tyson. Tyson's patterns were much easier to memorize/read I felt. Peace Shoot.....I could always beat Super Macho Man.......but I could never beat Tyson, though. Not even once. I wish you got a password to play Tyson instead of a password to play Super Macho Man and then Tyson. IIRC, doesn't 007-373-5963 take you directly to Tyson? Thats a different password than I got after I beat Super Macho Man.
mbd30 #55 Posted August 27, 2008 I still lack a copy of Super Punch-Out............no one EVER has a copy and I LOVE that game. But not as much as the original. Also good luck finding a copy with much battery life left. The battery on mine fairly recently gave out, so I lost all of my best times, scores, etc. I wonder how difficult it is to replace those things. At least there's emulators. PressureCooker2600 #56 Posted August 27, 2008 I think theres a way to replace the batteries but it's expensive and a bit time-consuming. I've heard of people replacing their NES Zelda save chips.

It gives you an 0-2 record, which would be impossible if it came from a real player. It must be the one Nintendo published in their magazine, and I guess they wanted the player not to feel too good about themselves after using it. I wanna say Keith Courage In Alpha Zone. Yes, it was Keith Courage in Alpha Zones. I beat it once. But I didn't think it was that fun so I never tried again. Still have it and played it a few days ago. Got to the second level and quit.
Eltigro #61 Posted November 13, 2008 I've beaten the original Castlevania several times. I first beat it way back when and have done it a few times since. I played it obsessively though and knew the levels like the back of my hand... wait... where'd that mole come from... Anyway, to the poster who said that they had played all the Castlevanias and the only one they hadn't beaten was the first one, I've played a lot of them (not all) and the only one I have beaten was the first one. Really? I beat part II in 1988 not long after I bought it. Never played III, but part IV was so easy on the SNES, I beat it in days. I bought Castlevania I in 1987 and never beat Dracula's ghost without cheating on an emulator.
BassGuitari #63 Posted November 13, 2008 Games I've never beaten without cheating, and probably never will: Castlevania: I can usually get to the end of level 4, but after that, forget it. Double Dragon: I can get to the last level, and shortly thereafter, I also get gang-raped by the Chintai guys that can kill you with 2 or 3 hits. Ninja Gaiden: I concur, these games can only have been designed by angry and hateful people. Journey to Silius: This is a cool game I haven't played in a very long time, and although it gets really hard, I think the difficulty curve is pretty well-balanced. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: I love this game, regardless of what Angry Video Game Nerd says, and it's really not that hard, provided you've played the game a lot, you understand the game's physics, and you can handle Donatello (fighting the Giant Mouser, for instance, is beyond easy; pick Donatello, and just stand under its head and swing upward when it opens its mouth. You'll never get it; it's lasers will never touch you, and Don's bo reaches far enough to hit the weak point as well as the small mousers as they fall out. He also hits more powerfully than Leo, Raph, or Mike). BUT, when/if you make it inside the Technodrome, the game decides that you're too good and just clusterfucks you. Mega Man: I've never understood the popularity of these games. Doesn't matter which one; I have a life expectancy of about 2 minutes in any given Mega Man game. Screw it. Bart vs. The Space Mutants: I've had this since I was about 7, and never in all those years have I passed level 2. Pitfall: I simply never beat it, except in a hacked version with unlimited lives and time. I'll tell you though, if I had invested the time and energy into legitimately finishing the game, I'd have felt gipped in a big way when I finally made it. Super Mario Bros. 2 (Japan): I give. Anyone know of any Game Genie codes for this sucker? (I've got an NES repro copy) Zelda games: They're tough, but not "bend over!" tough. Contra III: On hard difficulty, this is a beast. 'Nuff said. Alien³ (Genesis): This is tough in the later Hive and Leadworks stages because it's hard to see (hive) and aliens come out of the floor, without warning, in weird places (hive and leadworks). And having to kill 3 Guardians at once (leadworks) is no stroll through the infirmary even WITH cheats. The SNES version is hard because there's soooooo much of it and it gets really tedious. The NES version is a bitch because it's almost impossible to find all the cocooned prisoners, with lots of long tunnels and passages leading to nowhere and nothing. Even if you do know where they all are, you only get 2.5 minutes or something to collect all the prisoners AND get to the exit, so you can't afford to waste a second. Fury 161, indeed. Akalabeth: I've actually only had this game about a week, so maybe it doesn't count, but I can't pass the second dungeon, and I don't see how I ever will. Enemies seem to enjoy surrounding and ganging up on me, and they each need a couple hits since my stats aren't high enough by that point. So I take 3 or 4 hits for every 1 that I deliver, and the game ends quickly with the demise of myself and my computer. Tecmo Super Bowl: I don't think I've ever beaten the Miami Dolphins or the San Francisco '49ers in a season game, with any team. Even in preseason, there's not much you can do except quake in your shoes as they tear down the field like greased lighting while you wonder if that ball, kicked off and lofting in slow motion, is ever going to drop from the sky. The closest I came against either team in a season game was a 14-point deficit with Green Bay, against San Fran. It was tied until the 4th quarter, when Don Majkowski throws a beautiful touchdown pass to Sterling Sharpe at the 2-minute warning. But, "Upon further review...INTERCEPTION!" In the endzone, no less. So, the '49ers take it at the 20, the normally stalwart Bob Nelson* misses a sack on Joe Montana, who bombs it out to Jerry Rice, who runs it in against virtually no resistance. After the extra point, the Packers receive the kick, and the ball goes down at the 15. Majkowski gets piledriven by Bill Romanowski, with a loss of 3. Majik Man's injured and out, so in comes Anthony Dilweg, who is swiftly trashed like a rag doll, fumbling the ball. The ball is picked up by San Fran and is run in at the buzzer. Extra point is good...I was so pissed! (* Bob Nelson had 72 sacks that season, and my Green Bay Packers finished 13-3.)

nester #66 Posted November 16, 2008 I still can't beat Gradius!!!!!!! I've been trying to finish that game for years. How hard could a six level game really be? I can get to the final level fairly easily, but I always end up getting killed. I think I'm gonna try that one again after I'm finished with the other games I'm currently playing. As far as the other games in this thread go, I never had much of a problem with any of the FF games. I actually found FF7 to be pretty easy and I finished it in about 40 hours. I can see how it could be difficult though. You gotta be careful in those games or you'll end up weak. It took me years to beat Ninja Gaiden, and then a week or so to beat the 2nd one. I don't know if it's easier or I was just used to the gameplay by then. As for Punchout, I never had a problem with Super Macho Man, but Mr. Sandman took me about 1000 tries. It's so hard to punch in the stomach after so many rounds of headshots. I did finally prevail though.
shadow460 #67 Posted November 16, 2008 Not really a character, but I had a rough time on Lake Powell, Nile Adventure, and Castle von Dandy on all the versions of Hydro Thunder I have played. I got stuck for months on each one with the blue DC version, with Castle being the toughest. I finally beat Castle for the first time with Armed Response. Imagine my surprise when the PS2 version didn't offer bonus boats until after Castle was beaten. I had some difficulty on the PS2's beginner tracks until I took a (non) crash course with Miss Behave. Of course, now that I've unlocked Blowfish, they will not be a problem. I can win most of the tracks with several different boats, but when I go to Lake Powell or the Nile, I have zero chance of winning without Torpedoes or (oddly) Blowfish. For Castle, it's either Armed Response, Blowfish, or Chumdinger. I was pretty surprised to win it with a beginner boat for the first time.
+jeremiahjt #68 Posted November 16, 2008 There is one thing about Ninja Gaiden that makes it possible for me to beat it. There are 3 different incarnations of the last boss and once you beat a version you start off on the next version when you get there again. Every time I would die on the boss and get sent all the way back to the beginning of level 6, I would just turn the power off. One day I decided to try again and lo and behold the second form of the boss was there to greet me. I defeated him and was killed by the third form and then I made it back and killed him once and for all. If it wasn't for that I would have never beat the game. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was always one of the hardest for me. I can beat it only because of a programming bug. When Shredder appears you can turn towards the left wall and leave a little space and he will jump in that spot. Once he does you can just keep hitting him until he is dead. I think all he does is jump up and down, he won't actually attck you or leave the spot. I can't get close to beating him by trying to fight fair. He kills me very quickly. The only game I remember playing a lot that I just could not beat was Ironsword: Wizards and Warriors 2. I haven't tried it in many years, but I definitely remember never beating it. I have never played Ghosts 'n Goblins, but I have beat Castlevania 1.
