Red 5 #2 Posted July 10, 2008 The picture label is rare. The text label is not even close to a $20.00 game. Crazy.
homerwannabee #3 Posted July 10, 2008 I have seen Pong Sports go for crazy amounts a few times before. I chalk it up to the fact that for so many years before the Atari 2600 they had Pong systems left and right. My guess it is from someone who grew up in that era. Captain Beard #4 Posted July 10, 2008 As I've started listing the dupes I've been getting from lots, I've been doing eBay searches for every title and was struck by the high cost of this game, too. Check out the listings in eBay stores The cheapest one is $12, loose. By way of comparison: Digital Press lists its value at $4 loose. This price guide sez $8. I personally listed a copy recently for $5.39 and accepted an offer for $3.50, and I was happy to get it.
EricDeLee #5 Posted July 10, 2008 (edited) Looks like there is a text variant I wasn't aware of on these. Look at the 'S's on the end label. Some of the Sears Text show a slanted 's' and the others show a normal 's' Also, the numbers are different. The one in the auction link above: starts off as 49..... The slanted ones start off differently. Sigh... yet another one I have to look for now. Edited July 10, 2008 by EricDeLee
the 5th ghost #6 Posted July 11, 2008 I have 7 different versions of Pong Sports in my collection. As for the high price? I bet some people must think that Pong Sports was the first Atari game or something. The word Pong sticks in people's heads so they think the cart is super-retro-cool! +Omegamatrix #7 Posted July 11, 2008 I had a little bit of trouble finding the pic version too. Then Crazy Climber sold me one.
