OldSchoolGamer88 #1 Posted July 18, 2008 Hello. I just got a vectrex and everything on it works fine aside from button 1 on the controller. I was wondering if anyone here had or know of where to find a working vectrex pad. I would buy it for the right price or trade if needed. Let me know Thanks

+Mitch #4 Posted July 19, 2008 You can probably repair it yourself fairly easily. The button is most likely just dirty, disassembling the controller and cleaning the button contacts with isopropyl alcohol should fix it. The only trick is geting the label off without destroying it, using a heat gun (or even a hair blow dryer) should help. Mitch
BigO #5 Posted July 19, 2008 (edited) Electrically speaking, they aren't very complex. As Mitch suggests, I wouldn't be afraid to open it up and check it out. (Electrically speaking, building a digital controller of your own isn't difficult. If you're handy with mechanical stuff, it can be fun to build one) Edited July 19, 2008 by BigO
OldSchoolGamer88 #6 Posted July 19, 2008 Well, I found a guide on the net to opening the vectrex controller. I did exactly as instructed....did NOT rip the controller overlay(YAY), and cleaned the controller board and rubber part inside. Now it seems to work pretty good. I seemed to have dodged a bullet there. So now I dont need a controller right now.

Mitch If you do rip it (which I see you didn't) it is cheap to grab another one on ebay. I don't know the quality of those, but everyone I have heard from seems to think they are nice. So obviously they must be pretty nice.

BigO #12 Posted July 23, 2008 (edited) Any info on this controller? I like the looks of it... would love to build one. It was a sidetrack to avoid working on my more complex 5200 controller. Here's some info. on the Vectrex custom controller: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...7809&st=103 http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...17809&st=89 It actually turned out to be a better controller than I'd expected. If you have specific questions that the pictures don't answer, feel free to ask. I don't have a presentable schematic, but the wiring is pretty simple. No chips or other active components.
