What Atari 2600 games would make good movies?

Recently there has been a move by Hollywood to create a ton of comic book movies. Maybe a sign that they are running out of ideas. Well when the comic book well run's dry there is a chance they may turn to old video games. I was wondering what Atari 2600 games would make good movies?

Here is my top ten

1. Pitfall: Pitfall Harry in the South American jungles trying to find gold. Sounds good to me.

2. Miner 2049er: 41 years into the future mining technology has advanced to the point where new worlds are being found in caves.

3. Adventure: A quest to slay the Dragon.

4. Gunslinger: The sheriff and the outlaw track each other to the ends of the earth with 3 or 4 amazing duels.

5. River Raid: A mission to bring back lost P.O.W's from Vietnam.

6. H.E.R.O. Man invents a helicopter like device to save people lost in the mountains.

7. Atlantis: The story of how the ancient Atlantians got destroyed by alien invaders.

8. Time Pilot: A man has an Airplane that magically sends him back and forward into time.

9. Zaxxon: A lone fighter pilot of a spaceship takes on an overwhelming odds to destroy the evil overlord robot.

10. Montezuma's Revenge: Panama Joe's Adventures with the Montezuma awakening from the dead to try to attack.

How about "Combat, the Movie"......it would be tank vs. tank (kind if like Transformers but with an Atari twist).....this could potentially shoot down the "Dark Knight" and then some...... ;)

How about:

  • Mario Bros.
  • Resident Evil
  • Streetfighter
  • Mortal Combat
  • Doom

No wait there at it already... Argggghhhhhhhh...

OK so they aren't 2600 Games. But after seeing what hollywood did to some of my favorite comic book stars and the quality of the above as films. I really hope they leave well alone. I can just see the method acting school now "be the Block, live the Block, feel the Block, darling" ;)

Keystone Kapers- The story of a master thief and his attempt to flee from a relentless cop.

Yars Revenge - The intergalactic struggle of David vs. Goliath

Haunted House - Can our hero collect the pieces of the puzzle to end the curse of old man Graves?

Berzerk - One man trapped in a futuristic hell where robots rule....can he survive?

Warlords would bea cool movie,

Indeed!!

Yars Revenge - The intergalactic struggle of David vs. Goliath

Berzerk - One man trapped in a futuristic hell where robots rule....can he survive?

E.T. - oh wait never mind

LOL! (on E.T). Yars Revenge would make a great sci-fi movie (loved the story in the comic book) and Berzerk was the first game that came to mind when I saw this thread. I seem to remember some 70's movie where a guy is running around, trying to escape, blowing away robots. This would have been a mid 70's movie. Probably what Berzerk was based on.

Krull?

Was just about to watch that movie the other night strangely enough. Bought it recently after playing the Atari game again after years.

Custers Revenge!-> for guys who love b porn movies......

I will not admit how much I'd like to see this movie, especially if the indian maiden looks anything like the lady on the box cover for the game. :D (80's hair, makeup and all.) :P

My nomination for a video game movie: Star Raiders.

Naturally I would base it off the Atari 800 version, the 2600 version would do in a pinch if the movie featured a garbabe scow against the Zylon empire....

Krylon? Is that what the Star Raider 2600 storyline was?

;)

Makes sense to me. After all, the Zylons from the 400/800 cart are a technically advanced race in comparison to the Krylons, e.g. they do have three vessel types and none of them flickers.

Krylons... ok, sure enough. So you are flying around in a garbage scow fighting the slave race of the Zylons, the race of Krylons. At the end of the game do you get a 2600 font message saying "You are Promoted, go buy Star Raiders for the Atari 800 and fly a real Star Cruiser"

Oh, sorry, that would use up too much 2600 memory to display that message....

Seriously though, I'm SURE from what I've seen in Starfire & Star Master that a game almost of the caliber of 400/800 Star Raiders can be hacked on the 2600 these days.

To quote Shun-Look (as it is pronounced in a well-known TV series) Picard: "Make it so."

Space Jockey would make excellent Hollywood fare. The "jockey" would be blowing up random aircraft and baloons and then would hit ground level to blow away a few trees and houses for fun.

What about Word Zapper? Some UFO blowing away letters to stop doomsday from occurring. Kind of like an alien twist of "wargames" when Broderick had to tell the computer to play tic tac toe.

Vidtec/US Games made a bunch of movie worthy titles...

Sneak 'n' Peek.

No, seriously. Remember where some of the places you could hide were on those game?

It could make for one really freaky horror flick.

As for Yar's Revenge...as much as I love the game and the comic book...there already is a movie for it: A New Hope.

Adventure could be good...but only if they include the secret area.

Freeway or Frogger, perhaps...but they'd probably be Pixar creations, then.

Though Centipede...as something along the lines of Willow (though good)...that could work.

Haunted House too...but either done as serious horror...or done as quasi-horror comedy (that is, done by the Boll weevil). ;)
