madhatter667 #1 Posted August 6, 2008 Hey guys. I am seeking recommendations. I have a healthy chunk of Atari ST titles now... I was wondering what titles are considered "essential" to a collection? I tend to like RPG and dungeon crawler games...arcade, action, and adventure are all good too. I can't compile a list at the moment, as I just got in from work, and it is time to hit the pillow. If any recommended titles are in my stack, then they're definitely the ones that are going to get the first go when I make some space to set up the ST. Side note: Do any of the ST games play with a mouse? Or are they all joystick controlled? If joystick, what type? 2 button, or single? Really new to the STs... most of the games I got with the cocmputers that I purchased, though some were obtained via a big game lot off of ePay. Christos #2 Posted August 6, 2008 Hey, Let's start from the very beginning. The ST uses the Atari type of joysticks just like almost all other systems of the day. ST games have 3 mechanisms for them to be played, the joystick, the mouse and the keyboard. In general, platform, shoot em up and in general action games use the joystick, the mouse is being used by adventures, rpg's and strategy games and the keyboard by all type of games but most don't support it. Needless to say that flight simulators in general use all 3 ways... so here is a small list. RPG: Dungeon master and Chaos Strikes Back (DM2) Crystals of Arborea and Ishar trilogy The Bard's Tale Phantasie III unfortunately rpg is not my thing so I don't know much Adventure (this is ) Lucas Arts (Monkey Island, Indy III, Loom, Zack McKracken) Cruise for a Corpse (brilliant) Future Wars - Time travellers (awesome) Black Sect Maupiti Island Operation Stealth Shoot em up: Wings of Death Lethal Xcess SWIV Wolfenstein 3d Xenon Platform: Turrican 2 Metro Cross Gods Zool Rodland Bubble Bobble Various: Another World (Action adventure) No second prize (3d motorcycle racing simulator) Frontier: Elite 2 (Space trading and fighting) Just out of my head... As the man said but ... Also add Rainbow Islands to that list. I've always preferred it to Bubble Bobble. If you want a good multiplayer game, try Dynablasters. It's a version of Bomberman best played with 3 players. I'm not sure if I would call Frontier: Elite 2 an essential item, though. A very frustrating game to get into without the playability of the original. Then again, the original Elite on the ST wasn't even as good as the original BBC version. Also add: Oids Super Sprint Microprose Grand Prix Stunt Car Racer Jimmy White's Whirlwind Snooker Carrier Command (I was on the verge of finally beating that when I finally lost interest in the ST). madhatter667 #4 Posted August 7, 2008 Wow, out of that whole list, I only have Bubble Bobble! Ha ha ha! 'll have to keep my eyes peeled for some of those! Dungeon Master is one that I have heard of, many times, and not just in the ST realm. I have a disk image of that...though I haven't tried to write the image, or play on emulator yet... I prefer the real hardware, so I'll eventually get the PC set up to write to disk. Rainbow Islands... this game IS fun... I have Rainbow Islands Revolution for the DS and it's cool. That game tends to draw a fair price when it crops up. I'll work on getting that list made between tonight, and tomorrow... I woke up at like 7:30pm (graveyard day), so it isn't like I've done much. madhatter667 #6 Posted August 7, 2008 Ok, so here is the list of games I have. I have split them up into two categories. The first are legit, manufactured disks. The second batch is copied disks. Ha ha ha! Any good stand outs?
