What Is Twin Galaxies Position On The Jr. Pacman Speed Up Chip?

Recommended Posts

Hi All. I've never posted in this forum before, so it's nice to be here. On to the question at hand.

I have a Jr. Pacman at my house (it belongs to my friend Hrecker but I am more than happy to let him keep it here along with a few others :D ). For those of you who may know, it is a mappy conversion cabinet and it's in pretty good shape. Anyway, we are both getting very good at this game. My top score is 229,570 and his is 249,420, which would put us in 8th and 9th place in TG's record book, if we had filmed each game and turned it in. The board has the speed up chip installed on it and I was wondering if any of you may know if TG accepts scores from machines that have the speed up chip. I have looked at the TG site thoroughly and can't find anything on this particular issue. I'm only finding info on the proper dip switch settings, which we already knew. Can any of you help me answer this question?

Thanks In Advance,

Adam

TG doesn't allow hacks AFAIK. Although done "officially", the speedup qualifies as a hack. So submissions are no longer being accepted (the ones posted were done prior to the discovery).

Thanks Nukey Shay. I looked high and low and never found that. One question though: this says MAME for platform. I wonder if this applies to actual arcade machines as well. Probably so, but dam...I like playing with the speed up chip

BTW: We've emailed TG about this and they never replied

Gee I wonder why Ms. Pac-man has scores accepted with its speed up chip? Actually board 7 is still hard to clear even with the speed up due to the squares in the corners.

Did you try posting on their forums as well? http://www.twingalaxies.com/forums/

The rebuttal boards on the KoK vid, offers a great insight into the making of that documentary, in so much as Walter basically admits it was pretty much more or less true, and the documentary makers didn't have a significant agenda in mind imo.

I'm confused, do you want them to rank your scores seperately, or included with normal Jr. Pac-Man scores? The speed up chip makes it a different and easier game.

Same goes for Ms. Pac-Man, but they include those scores with regular Ms. Pac-Man scores?

Well I would like it if they ranked the scores all together. But I've never played Jr.Pac-man without the speed up chip so I wasn't aware that the game is easier with the speed up chip. I guess that makes sense, because the ghosts never travel faster than Jr with the speed up chip, so it's easier to avoid them (no wonder we are getting such high scores!) So I'm guessing that this isn't the case without the speed up chip?

My view is that the board in our machine came out of the factory in the state that it's in today (I could be mistakin onthis) and therefore scores should be accepted from this machine. At the very least, a seperate catagory should be made to include these scores.
