APrules2 #1 Posted August 10, 2008 Hi, I took out my 2600 today after not playing it for 2 months and the power supply is not working, is there any other power supply from another system that I can hack the end off of and solder the Atari plug on. Or am I better off buying a universal one from Radio Shack? Also Does anyone have a few spare originals I have another 2600 that I got with no power supply and I was thinking of putting that down stairs in the game room. You gotta watch it with power supplies. You just cant go to radio shack and buy any power adapter and plug it in your 2600.Theres different ratings, and some adapters will put out 5 times or more power that you need, resulting in a blown console.Since theses are old machines, you obviously cant go out and buy another one at the local mall right? The ratings for the 2600 power supply is as follows input:120VAC 60Hz 200 mA...OUTPUT:9VDC 500mA.I got mine from ATARIGUIDE.COM,or find an equivalent.I wouldnt want to plug any old power adapter in my sunnyvale heavy 6,thats for sure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. It does NOT matter if the thing is putting out 20 amps @ 9vdc. Nothing is going to fry, fuses are not going to blow. The Atari will only draw what it needs. +Omegamatrix #4 Posted August 10, 2008 As long as it outputs 9V and a minimum of 500mA you will be fine.
APrules2 #5 Posted August 10, 2008 How important are the ma's? I think I have a spare NES, sega genesis, and Jaguar, plugs they were 9v's I think, Im gonna go check.
+Omegamatrix #6 Posted August 10, 2008 mA stands for Milli Amperes. It is important to have the minimum.

APrules2 #8 Posted August 11, 2008 Cut the plug off an old cordless phone that ended up being 9vdc and 500ma exactly, so it worked out pretty well. Oddly enough the power supply was gone not a torn wire.
