APrules2 #1 Posted August 11, 2008 (edited) I got my Atari working about 20 mins ago, but now the controllers arent really responding right. Some times one controller wont go right, plus the fire bitton doesnt always work and on the other one the firebutton doesnt work at all. I took the one that wont fire at all apart and the spring for the fire button is missing and so is the peg it mounts to. Is there a fix for this they are the standard square 2600 4 switch joysticks. APrules2 #2 Posted August 11, 2008 Ine you guys dont know what I am looking for, I want to rebuild my controllers. I remember on my NES they sold a kit with new buttons and new rubber pieces so you could pretty much rebuild the entire controller the only things retained were the case, wire, and circuit board, do they make one for the Atari Joy sticks? slosu #3 Posted August 11, 2008 I don't know if they sell kits for a Atari controller. But to be honest, you would be better off picking up some new controller's. You can ALWAYS score on ebay or go to ATARI2600.com By the time you buy a kit, for a couple of dollars more you have some good one's. Steve
accousticguitar #4 Posted August 11, 2008 I believe they sell rebuild kits at Best Electronics.
BigO #5 Posted August 11, 2008 There's probably not much to a rebuild kit: just the dome switches and some kind of tape to hold them in place. I've thought a time or two about modifying one to use tactile switches, but I dropped that thought when I got my FB2 controllers.
Artlover #6 Posted August 12, 2008 I used to just scrounge the dome things out of those cheepy phones (those everything in a cheap molded handset with the chin activated hang-up button), and use scotch tape to stick them down on the pcb.
Rik #7 Posted August 12, 2008 (edited) Less hassle and money to just get a stik at the thrift.I dont see games or consoles at the thrift as much anymore, but i see 2600 stiks and paddles all the time. Edited August 12, 2008 by Rik
APrules2 #8 Posted August 12, 2008 The whole thing Im worried about is if I buy 2 other sticks off EBay how long before I'm in the same boat all over again, we are dealing with 30 year old technology. Out of curiosity does anyone know if the flashback 2 controllers will work on it? I saw a post fro ma guy who modded them to look like the Tron arcade ones, and they use a more modern set up inside, not to mention they still look just like the old Atari ones. Also does anyone know where a thrift store that has Atari stuff is in NJ I can never find them?
accousticguitar #9 Posted August 12, 2008 Flashback 2 controllers work fine on a 2600.
Lord Helmet #10 Posted August 12, 2008 You should post something in the "wanted" forum. You can probably score a couple of working controllers for really cheap that way.
slosu #11 Posted August 12, 2008 Just do what I do....use a SEGA controller!
bones #12 Posted August 12, 2008 Best Electronics has what you're looking for, here's the link Get a couple of the rebuild kits that include the upgraded cx40 handle and gold cx40 pcb and you'll be set. May want to get another fire button spring if you're missing one, they're all of .50 I've purchase from Best many times over the years, their products and service are top shelf.
