fdurso224 #26 Posted August 25, 2008 I tried to trip him when he wasn't paying attention when he was walking, and I did!!!! Wow, sorry to say this, but you're an asshole. It's really too bad someone didn't bust you in the mouth. This is the first time I've ever heard of anyone saying he's anything but a super nice guy in person. Everyone has bad days. If he was showing up in character, his fans sort of expect him to act like that, and, since I also really hate kids, they can just fuck right off, and so can the parents. Just like M rated games, his show is NOT intended for children, and it's the parent's responsibilty to make sure they don't see it. Seriously, I used to think you were allright until reading this. Hi, Understand your feelings and I don't take any offense to it. I'm still a cool guy and understand you fully. I'm still cool with you 2600 Lives and I still hope we can still talk on a normal basis. Anthony....
theking21083 #27 Posted August 25, 2008 (edited) Whether if he was in character or not, if there are kids around you need to watch what you say. I'm sure he was in a public place where anybody could have gone to. If he was at an auditorium where people have to get tickets to go see him then that would be a different story. hex65000 #30 Posted August 25, 2008 Hehe! it makes me think of another big-mouthed lunatic... Morton Downey Jr. I was gonna do this from memory, but Wikipedia. saves the day. In 1989, as fascination with Downey's TV show began to wane, he was involved in an incident in a San Francisco International Airport restroom in which he claimed to have been attacked by neo-Nazis who painted a swastika on his face and attempted to shave his head. Some inconsistencies in Downey's account (e.g., the swastika was painted in reverse, suggesting that Downey had drawn it himself in a mirror), and the failure of the police to find supportive evidence, led many to suspect that the incident was a hoax and a plea for attention. In a way perhaps it's a means to keep people talking about him even though he's a bit of a non-event. <shrug> You want to do over the top on the Internet, that's fine. Mr. T can shoot snickers bars at dorky power-walkers. The thing is, that's not real and the toxic part of that Mr. T persona leaves when he goes off camera (I hope.). It's hard for me and perhaps others to realize that an actor is only an actor. I remember meeting voice actors from the various Transformers series and there was a part of my brain thinking that I know this person since I watched the cartoon episodes and it's their voice being good/evil. The smarter part knows better and tries to be cordial and that I really know nothing about this person. Unfortunately, sometimes fans let the fantasy in their minds leak into the real world, and perhaps actors do the same thing. To me, AVGN can do his stchick all he likes on camera, but leave that crap at home. Otherwise he's just being a knob. Hex. JimmydelaKopin #31 Posted August 25, 2008 (edited) Just to clarify since others haven't yet really...AVGN is Rolfe's character's name now. He used to be ANN...but AVGN can be trademarked and thus merchandised. Of course, he's just one of them out there. There's the various AVGN clones, there's That Guy with the Glasses, and, of course, there's SpoonyOne. "Disclaimer, noble leader?" All right, Diskette. This poster is an admin at the official SpoonyOne website, and has contributed material to some of SpoonyOne's reviews. --Back to what I was saying: there are a number of reviewers out there, some good, some bad. Of course, SpoonyOne is one of the best around. "Go buy a 'Fusebox #42' T-shirt from his website! You'll feel better and look kewler!" Ahem! ...Still, AVGN does have some entertaining videos, though his most recent one, in which all his profanities were fan contributions, only shows how forced such language is some of the time. "Yeah, his heart wasn't really in his rants against the Intellivision and the Colecovision. But that's because those were great systems with 'like, rilly kewel games', as the Valley Girls would say.--Hey, leader-dude, where does AVGN discuss religion in his videos?" I believe the person's referring either to his rant on those unauthorized games that were clones of legit games and, oddly enough, based on Biblical events... "Makes sense." ...or the person's talking about that video AVGN did that was a rant on the neo-Luddite stance that was popular among some Fundamentalists back in the early-to-mid 80's. "That could be it too." But seriously, people: Microcosm, SpoonyOne. Check it out! "And stop by Spoony's cafepress T-shirt & mousepad store! Tell Spoony that Diskette sent ya!" We ask him kindly (repeatedly) to tone down his language. But he continued non stop. My nieces & nephews are 4, 5, and 6, were attending the show, and I went over at least three times to tell him nicely to calm down. Eventually, I decided that it was just best to take the kids back home to my Sister and I went back to the show to & do some trades. But first I had to buy some ice cream for them before bringing the kiddies back to there mother. (^_^). Unfortunately when I returned, he was still cursing, swearing and acting like a clown. After what I did to him (and once he left). The older parents and young adults were smiling & patting me on the back. One dude said "What you did took b*lls. Even though it was wrong, he deserved it!". One mother/father couple said "Thank you". So yeah. Anthony.... Edited August 25, 2008 by fdurso224

One doesn't "choose" to go to a show, then complain about the people appearing for performing their acts. If he was up on stage doing a performance then that is one thing. If your just walking around in a crowd acting like an idiot then that's completely different. I'm pretty sure that he wasn't the main event at the show, he probably just went to get more exposure. If I went to the show and did the same thing, but held up a sign advertising that I was the Angry Movie Nerd would that make it right? I'm sure that most of the parents didn't even know that he was going to be there or even who he is.

I'm sure that most of the parents didn't even know that he was going to be there And in that case, I would completely aggree that he should tone it down. The problem is however, despite all the back & fourth, and probing for details; The circumstances of why and what capacity he was there for are conspicously absent. It's rather hard to have a valid opinion without that key signifigant fact, even more so when it's someone who don't like him to begin with giving only one side of the story. When I see a situation where one could accuse bias of being invovled, I'm more open to giving the benefit of the doubt towards the other side. Atleast until all the details are available and a fair objective opinion can be made. I'm sure that most of the parents didn't even know .... who he is. This point however....It's not his problem if someone else doesn't know who he is. It's like, if your kids ask to go to the Eddie Murphy concert, and you don't know who he is, or think of classic SNL and take them, you can't use that as an excuse to complain once the mother f--ker's, suck this, f--k that, kiss my big black ass's start flying non stop for the next 90 minutes. Anywho, not knowing the full story, I can not and refuse to justify anything said or done. Fair enough?

JohnnyBlaze #45 Posted August 30, 2008 I'm a fan and I will say this: Some of his videos are DAMN good. For example, the Horror Trilogy(Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and the Power Glove), Bugs Bunny's Birthday Blowout, NES Accessories, and Batman just to name a few. But, some of his videos are downright stupid(Superman 64, Virtual Boy, Double Vision). It's like Lindsay Lohan's career,(Mean Girls was good, Herbie sucked, Just My Luck sucked, Bobby was good, Georgia Rule was OK). Everybody makes hits and shit. Me personally, if I had to make a theory, I'd say his best ones are the ones with a story behind it. When he just does a review, it SUCKS! But, when he makes a little film with the review, THEN it's actually quite entertaining. So, that should settle it. Now, for some responses: You've never thought to curse a lot and act like a moron? Let's see......Eddie Murphy, Chris Rock, Sam Kinison, Dane Cook, Denis Leary. Any questions? Hi: Knights of Columbus Hall Lynhurst, NJ. A real "Peanut in a Shell" place. If he's going to make an appearance as the AVGN, then that's what you're going to see. It's like(well I don't know if you did but) when you go to wrestling matches. You see a "heel" or bad guy wrestler. If he's around the fans(like Rolfe was), he's not going to shake your hand and sign your autographs, he's going to punch you in the mouth and spit on you. That's called "keeping in character". That was Rolfe's job. If he didn't, he'd be fired or nobody would book him for appearances anymore. It's just like when my cousin went to NAVA when he was there and the Nostalgia Critic was there. Rolfe stayed in character the WHOLE time. We're(me and my cuz) are die hard wrestling fans, so we would understand that whole thing better than anyone. That's his JOB! Don't bring the kids. END OF DISCUSSION! You just lumped Denis Leary, Chris Rock, and Eddie Murphy in with Dan Cook. Let us never speak again sir. This is the funniest thing (actually the only funny thing) to result from Dane "I have nothing funny to say ever because I am a huge tool" Cook. And the real thing. Yes Dane, I can totally relate to that, except for the fact that it is not relateable at all. It sounds like comedy from a 12 year old goth. Jess Ragan #48 Posted August 30, 2008 I'm just insulted that you would compare the Angry Nintendo Douchebag to good comedians. You seriously think his "comedy" has the same depth and social impact as Chris Rock or Denis Leary? He's a jerk who screams at video games. That's it. A lot of the old games he reviews lend themselves extremely well to parody, but Rolfe squanders those opportunities, instead offering such words of wisdom as "this game sucks the shit out of a dead man's asshole." The fact that these observations have made the man an overnight success is even more frustrating. I'm not sure whether to be angry with James Rolfe for making a show with zero substance, or the Internet community for making it popular.
