Upping the shipping after the auction is over

Recommended Posts

I just got an invoice from an eBay seller for an item with quoted shipping of $17.00 via UPS with a shipping charge of $35.00 (UPS ground) attached to it. I wrote back in the nicest way possible to say that that was a leeeeetle high... and then started to wonder if maybe this was a calculated effort to jack the shipping up? Honestly, if it had been a buck or two more I probably would have clicked right on through and paid without noticing.

Seems like it just gets more and more ridiculous by the day.

Yuck! Sorry to hear about your troubles. I usually find the sellers that charge the most in shipping fees pack the shittiest too. Hope it works out for ya. :|

I am just waiting for a response from the seller. As a seller myself, I do understand that eBay's shipping calculator can occasionally mess up (that's why I no longer use it). But to just send an invoice with double the shipping charge and not even acknowledge it... that smells super fishy to me. Hopefully he's make it right, but I am not optimistic.

Some weasel sellers will invoice you more for the shipping than the auction said. If you call them on it, they apologize profusely claiming it was a mistake. But if you don't, cha-ching!

Not saying that's necessarily the case here...

I have had this happen a couple times. Most of the time they try to weasel their way by having in small font somewhere in their description. "Buyer must pay actual shipping." Even though the auction shows a different shipping price in the auction itself in order to attract more potential buyers. I usually follow promptly with a report to eBay and let them handle it from there. Sorry about your troubles but it is becoming more and more common. :x
