+Cafeman #1 Posted August 29, 2008 I bought SNK Arcade Classics volume 1 for my PS2 a month ago, for the bargain price of $19.99 brand new. I hear it is also on Wii. I never got to play any of these often raved about SNK games - never had a NeoGeo in local arcades. I did try out some of the extremely weak Genesis ports of stuff like Fatal Fury. Well... the game which commanded my attention the most has been Neo Turf Masters. I couldn't rest until I unlocked all the achievements -- the gold ribbons and such, and last night, I finally did all of them for this game. The one I worked the hardest on was to beat the game on Insane difficulty. I found a golfer I could do well with - he's the middle guy in the list who kinda resembles Lionel Luthor on Smallville (!). The challenge to it all is that you only have like 12 credits to begin with on this difficulty setting. If you get Par, you only use 1 per hole. If you get above Par, you lose an additional "penalty" credit. So you need to get a certain amount of Birdie's (or better..fat chance doing that though) to keep in the game. I finally did it last night, although I did reset a couple times and used the save feature to "replay" 2 or 3 really botched holes. Its been a long time since a golf game truly enraptured me - maybe since Arnold Palmer Golf on Sega Genesis. The last "achievement goal" was to get an Eagle. Wow was that hard. I backed the difficulty down to normal and kept playing holes to try it, and finally on a certain Par 5 I got to the green in 2 hits and Eagle'd in. YEE HAW! Thanks for reading. Tempest #2 Posted August 29, 2008 Neo Turf Masters is one of the best golf games out there. There's a reason that the AES version is about $1,800 and the MVS version goes for around $100... NTF was done by the same guys who did Metal Slug, so that should tell you something. Tempest
joeybastard #3 Posted August 29, 2008 SNK Arcade Classics is a great compilation. I've been playing that a lot since I got it for the PS2 a couple of weeks ago. The only complaint I have is the painfully slow loading and saving. Before I bought the PS2 one I was hoping there was an Xbox version so I could get something that loads quicker. kevincal #4 Posted August 29, 2008 I need to pick up this compilation. I still find it hard to believe Neo Turf Masters is as good as Tiger Woods '03-'05. NTM seems more in line with Mario Golf or Hot Shots, which I've heard are really good but are a little too cartoony for me. See, I've actually played golf since I was about 10. TW's leans more towards realism which I like.

I like the Tiger games but sometimes a nice quick moving arcade game is fun too.
jhd #6 Posted August 29, 2008 I wrote a review of this game a few months ago: SNK Arcade Classics Review I was not overly impressed, but I did not try Neo Turf Masters; perhaps I will give it another look.
Reaperman #7 Posted August 29, 2008 (edited) I *love* neo turf masters, and it's the reason I almost bought the same collection just a couple nights ago. Instead I decided I wanted the MVS version worse, so I'll save up. As mentioned above, if I'm lucky it can be had for about $80 shipped... I love me some neo geo. I just hope there are more neo geo collections and that they also go to ps2. (there are actually a lot of smaller collections and ports on ps2) If you really want to see what the system can do, I recommend Fatal Fury: Mark of the Wolves. It had to go up against street fighter III, and for hardware that was 10 years old at the time, it did a *damn fine* job. I am surpised it has lasted a week allready. http://www.neo-geo.com/forums/showthread.php?t=186696 I got a Turfes in my cab when I bought it and was also entrapped, played about 40 rounds a week for 3 months straight. It was simple enough that you can dive right in, but to get better you need to practice your golfer and learn to use the advanced abilities ( backspin, hook, etc.) They each have different strengthes on things like hitting from ruff, so you need to judge the right adjustments or you can wind up in a bunker real quick. Neo Turfmasters is one of the few Neo games that all my friends enjoy, from age 20-55. On the Gweeeeeeeeen!!!! NE146 #11 Posted August 30, 2008 (edited) I'll be honest and say the only way I've played Neo-Turf masters is on the Xbox and I totally totally cheat by using savestates to get eagles and holes in ones constantly. What can I say, it's the way I enjoy the game! Edited August 30, 2008 by NE146
