+Allan #4 Posted August 29, 2008 So if one has a original commercial 8-bit disk that needs to be dumped, what is the best way to go about it? I know how to get an un-protected utility to ATR format, but what about a commercial release? Allan
www.atarimania.com #5 Posted September 1, 2008 So if one has a original commercial 8-bit disk that needs to be dumped, what is the best way to go about it? I know how to get an un-protected utility to ATR format, but what about a commercial release? The best thing to do is to make a list of the originals you have, we'll let you know whether we need anything. Note that some commercial disks have no protection at all. If you have cracked disks, you can refer to our MIA list which can be found here. To everyone: there are still 1,500-2,000 rare commercial titles on old disks gathering dust that have not been dumped yet, please catalog what you have before it is too late! Programs don't need to be taken from originals, it's better to have something pirated than nothing at all! Also, just because a program is crappy doesn't mean that it shouldn't be preserved. -- Atari Frog http://www.atarimania.com

www.atarimania.com #11 Posted October 24, 2008 (edited) Latest commercial games added to the database, all taken from originals... Tape images: Aztec Challenge (Cosmi) => revised edition Cribbage (THESIS) => previously undumped! Rainbow Walker (Synapse Software) Stellar Shuttle (Broderbund Software) Temple of Apshai (Epyx) => double-sided tape release dumped by Spirantho, does anybody have the single-sided cassette version of the game? Unprotected disks in ATR format: Ardy the Aardvark (Main Street Publishing) => budget re-release, unprotected, with slightly different loading screen Tanktics (Avalon Hill) Protected disks in VAPI format: Attack at EP-CYG-4 (Bram, Inc.) => this is the original game where you can choose from three missions, not the cut-down re-release on cartridge by Romox available everywhere (for good measure, the two sides of the tape version are on our site as well!) Pathfinder (Gebelli Software) => full version with proper title screen (the Softsmith re-release with a different loading screen is also in the database) Prisoner 2 (Peachtree Software) => not available before, this is V3.2 as issued by Peachtree Software Wordrace (Don't Ask Computer Software) => previously undumped! -- Atari Frog http://www.atarimania.com Edited October 24, 2008 by www.atarimania.com

deathtrappomegranate #13 Posted October 24, 2008 The Atarimania database grows ever larger, but, sadly, the progress that we are able to make in producing dumps and scans from the collections of the Atarimania team members is rather slow. We need help to find the dumps that are missing, and we depend on contributions from Atari enthusiasts to continue our quest to archive all Atari software. We would like all A8 enthusiasts to check out our "MIA list" - we'd be very glad to get any of the titles on that list, and, in most cases, even a copy lying on an old, long-forgotten floppy would be good to get. Of course, we prefer to have original dumps and scans wherever possible, but it's quite likely that, for some of these titles, there are no originals remaining. So please download the MIA list here: http://www.atarimania.com/MIA_January_2008.zip and check your collection! Thanks to all Atarimania contributors; past, present and future! miker #16 Posted December 7, 2008 Well - there is also something like "Tape Preservation Project (TPP)" ran by dely at atari.area. It concentrates on these tape versions of games/programs which aren't available on Atarimania site (Atarimania'cs probably know about it already - but i write about it to inform all the other interested). The text are mostly in Polish language but if you scroll down to "tymczasowa lista plikow" there are titles written in bold where you can click and download CAS/FLAC files, scans of covers, manuals etc. Meanwhile, having little pause from other activites. I've taken the CAS file of Sammy the Sea Serpent game, unscrambled the listing using The Scanalyzer, and removed the tape-checking from the game. Then all the files i saved to disk. You can now play the game with speech (if you have original tape) or select the "hacked" version which doesn't require anything except good joystick. Have fun then! ThomSW #17 Posted December 11, 2008 Heh, it looks like Atarimania site is more interested in 2600 titles. But 8-bit is cool too, believe me! (not counting 16-bit ones, still unavailable)
Ganky Ghost #18 Posted December 12, 2008 I'll make a list of all of my 'original' Atari 8-bit disk software tonight and try to get it to you. I doubt that I have anything that you don't already have, but we'll see. I'll also make a list of my 'pirated' stuff. I don't have a way to make dumps yet, and likely won't until January/February/Marchish when I finally get around to ordering an SIO2PC interface from AtariMax. I only have 3 or four Atari cartridges remaining, and they're all very common titles. e.g. Atariwriter, Flight Simulator, et al. So I won't bother compiling a list of those. _The Doctor__ #19 Posted December 12, 2008 Atarimani does have 16 bit software, for some reason it is not accessable from the main menu itself, I got into the ST section on accident one day, so Froggy can we open it up, since it does exist, just not exactly complete. Chrodegang #25 Posted December 13, 2008 (edited) We also need complete manual scans of the OSS stuff! Just mail me your scans and I will post-process and upload them. Of course you will be mentioned in the utility/game entry as contributor! Make sure you scan at least with 150dpi and save as jpg file with compression quality not less than 80%.
