the twin cities needs a game-related convention

Recommended Posts

We need a convention here dangit, so I can show up & have some fun. I see all these other retro-game related conventions all over the world and hmm, those would look like fun. The closest convention to here was a Jaguar convention in Rochester. I would rather to go to a more widely casted net.

Of course, I want no part in the planning, responsibility & monetary investment in it. I'll gladly pass that buck to somebody else. Let's see tons of Ataris & other classic video game systems setup for the public to enjoy. Let's have a few dealer tables here & there, and whatever else I can think of.

Of course, I only know of 2 or 3 other locals on here, but surely more would come out of the woodwork. There's also some art gallery with a classic video game-themed exhibit coming up. I gotta remind myself to go to it once the art's ready.

So, what do you think?

Hmm,

not sure there's a whole lot of us up here actually. Nukey & the dude with the twins logo are the only others i see on here that i know of. I've wanted to go over to Milwaukee area to the MGC but the friggin' gas prices keep me here, so it sure would be cool if there was something closer. Is there a good ol' fashion arcade even in the twin ctiies anymore?

Peace

Thanks for the mention midnight.

I agree, I wish that there could be some sort of gaming convention around here. Even a gaming show, that could be held at the Mall of America would be cool. Maybe create somewhat of a buzz here in the state for classic gaming. I'd really like to see Nolan Bushnell open one of his iWink restaurants in the MOA. Seems like thats the kind of place that it would do really well in.

As for not many people on here being from MN, it seems like we are in some type of gaming abyss. Reading about others having trouble finding things in New Mexico and parts of Texas, it seems like here in the upper Midwest we too are in a gaming drought. I read about others in the thrift find treads and am shocked and amazed at what is found and at what great prices. I'd really like it if we had a similar scene up here.

Room34, Crazy Climber, and Twit also live in MN. As suggested by MM, there's probably not enough Minnesotans for a local convention/trade show to be cost-effective (nowhere near it if it was to be hosted in the MOA!). Milwaukee is sufficient...it's only a few hours away.

Uhh, Wisconsin is more of a convention hotspot than Minnesota? I'm confused. I thought both states would be equally obscure enough for cons.

Yet, we get the freakin' RNC here. We're a blue state.

I never posted that. Although now that you mention it, Milwaukee is much closer to Chicago than stewed cranberries taste like rhubarb ;)

Hey I'm here in Oakdale! I could bring lots of stuff to display but like S1500 I'd have no time to invest in planning & working out any details, but I'd likely attend.

If something does come together, PLEASE dont have it during winter. IMO outdoors is overrated as it is, but I hate going out in the f'ing snow.

& by then, we may as well wait for the MGC in Milwaukee. Chances are I'll be there this yr- had to miss last yr for the birth of my boys. Damn kids. ;)

Well, you see, if we have a convention in the twin cities, we would have the convention INDOORS, especially if it was the winter.

Yep, but I'd still have to GET THERE. :P

I love MN living but yes, I hate winter that much, more & more each yr it seems. My next-door neighbor's even worse. He's from the South & at the first sign of winter, he hibernates. 2 yrs ago I didnt see him 'til spring.

You do have a Republican Governor and your state in the past few years has been trending more Republican to the point where the state is now a toss up state and can go either way.

Umm....the Midwest Gaming Classic has been going on in the Milwaukee area for about 8 years now, and is the largest show in the Midwest (if not one of the largest in the country right now). So I'm not sure what you're talking about.

I'm not sure what you're talking about.

He's talking about distance from the twin cities area. Rochester (think Mayo clinic) is only about 1 hr south of Mpls/St.Paul. He wasn't talking about the midwest not having a CGC. Just the twin cities. Milwaukee is about 4 1/2 hrs away from him & about 6 1/2 from me. Not what I'd call close.

Peace

Ok. Thought he meant Rochester, New York or something.
