Artlover #3 Posted September 2, 2008 Here is my collection, let me know what you think... Enjoy! Pretty nice. BTW: Just a hunch, but I suspect your Sega Saturn Contra isn't an original case insert.
dreamcastrip #4 Posted September 2, 2008 You mean you've never played Contra: Ghetto?!

MN12BIRD #9 Posted September 2, 2008 Awesome I have a SegaCD and just got a Saturn last week. I have some nice games on the way for it too! Can't wait!
shadow460 #10 Posted September 2, 2008 That's the box that came packed with my Saturn! The one with Daytona USA, Virtua Cop, and Virtua Fighter 2. I knew they had some kind of special packaging besides the little sleeves. Not a bad start there. Ever try GameFAQs for images of Contra? You might be able to make a back label for your Saturn box. MobyGames also has some scans, but they have watermarks on them.
MN12BIRD #11 Posted September 2, 2008 Pssst.... Sega CD games have no copy protection... Don't tell anyone else... I know. Only problem is i can't get any iso's to a cdr and make them work. The old SegaCD is REALLY picky on the type of CD-R you use and your burners quality and the speed you burn at all make a difference too. Slower is usually better BUT some burners will actually burn more accurately at a higher speed then their lowest speed. I had to fool with brands for my 3DO downloads also. SegaCD is sorta picky. It also doesn't help that you can't always trust many of the rips. A lot of people ripped SegaCD's all f--ked up, and made horrible malformed trash that didn't work as is. I wish a slow painfull death to every idiot who ripped the sound tracks as MP3's, hell, a slow painfull death to every idiot that ripped games as individual tracks period. And to the idiots that made iso's from MP3's and reposted them. Wanna shove a segacd up all their backends, sideways. Anywho, unless you're prepaired to rebuild the iso's, always look for "darkwater" releases. He did the stuff right.
VideoFever1982 #13 Posted September 2, 2008 I have the model 2 but i've had no luck so far. Only tried Time Gal anyway.

Damn straight if it's not a straight up bin/cue it ain't worth sh*t. There's an expanded darkwater set out there ~65GB. And it's worth repeating, Taiyo Yuden written at 16x, and Bob's your uncle. On another note, I've always loved the Sega CD / Saturn boxes.
user42 #15 Posted September 2, 2008 (edited) There is a torrent up on underground-gamer.com that has....here I'll just quote it.... Genuine and tested Sega CD USA images (2007-11-14) This torrent contains every officially released Sega CD USA game plus a wide assortment of extras. I would like to give special thanks to Devilman who contributed over $500 to the project. This set was made possible thanks to his dedication and generosity. The Official Sega CD USA games are in the bin+cue format and each image was ripped according to the Darkwater rip/burn guide. The images are TorrentZipped and this set comes with a CLRMAME Pro dat file. You can get the CLRMAME Pro dats for this set here or in this torrent. Please use the Genuine and tested Sega CD USA images (2007-11-14) [Quickplay Compatible Version] dat as this torrent has been named according to it. The Darkwater dat is just to let you know which images in this set are Darkwater releases. For those who have Usenet access you might be interested to know that I've also uploaded the complete collection at alt.binaries.emulators.sega and alt.binaries.emulators.misc. Go to binsearch or Bintube to download the set. You do need Usenet access though. Each image was thoroughly tested and is guaranteed to be a working genuine rip. The image creation and testing procedure was as follows- 1 - The project used the Darkwater rip/burn guide. This means images were ripped from the actual disc consecutively and CRC compared to verify that an error free image extraction took place. Also 60 of the images in this set are actually Darkwater releases. I had to remove the Darkwater release numbers from the archives though to make the set fully compatible with the front-end Quickplay. Darkwater also CRC compares their images and are dedicated to quality just like this project is. Perhaps more so... 2 - After image extraction, the image was scanned with CDmage to check for sector errors. This is an important step because CD discs that have no copyright protection should have none. Finding sector errors usually indicates a bad rip and the game has a high likelihood of crashing at some point. The main reason I don’t collect Sega CD USA TOSEC rips is because they do not contain the Error Detection and Error Correction Codes (EDC & ECC respectfully) that enable you to confirm an error free image extraction took place. 3 - The project team members then tested the image via the emulators Kega Fusion and Gens+. Both emulators were used because some games will not work on Kega. (Very few though. I believe Animals!, The (U) is one of them) 4 - Finally the image was burn tested on the actual Sega CD USA console to make sure that the image was fully working. As you can see, the project went through extraordinary lengths to make sure that this set was quality. This ends the short description for the torrent and should give you a general idea what it contains. Edit: I also thought that you might find this interesting... 1 - DO NOT USE ALCOHOL 120% TO BURN THESE IMAGES TO DISC!!! The program does not read the pregap information contained in the cue files of bin+cue rips properly. As a result it will produce burns that do not have the proper audio timings. This can cause all sorts of funky problems like audio skipping and game lockups. Alcohol 120% also has the same problem ripping discs in the bin+cue format. I recommend CDRwin or Nero to burn. Buy quality CDR media like Sony, Verbatim and TDK and burn at an average speed and not slowest as burning at the slowest setting actually increases the chances of bad burns on modern drives. (Go to the Myth of burning slower section of the digitalfaq guide.) 2 - Make sure you have a USA Sega CD console before burning these images because while the Sega CD has no copy protection it does have a region lockout. +remowilliams #16 Posted September 2, 2008 Edit:I also thought that you might find this interesting... I recommend CDRwin or Nero to burn. Buy quality CDR media like Sony, Verbatim and TDK That advice is particularly worthless. Most rebranded media is sh*t these days, and is mostly horrific CMC Magnetics and cheap Moser Baer crap. You have to know who makes the discs, not the reseller brand name. It might not matter to your $10 cd player, but it sure as hell matters to ancient consoles. Yeah, Alcohol 120% is pretty crappy for just about everything. Personaly I like "ImgBurn". http://www.imgburn.com/ Terrific little app.
