+Cafeman #1 Posted September 17, 2008 (edited) Hello, Cafeman here. Long time reader, first time poster to "Wanted", yada-yada-yada. I used to own an Atari 1200XL (expensive and SOB! didn't work with my Gorf cartridge!) but discarded it not long ago - it was in bad shape (cousins dropped it and worse over the years). I need to get a new Atari computer, certainly not the 1200XL with its compatibility problems. Thing is, I never see them anywhere. I'm not 100% sure of the RAM in each but from what I recall I'd want the 800XL, 65XE, or 130XE. Something with enough RAM so I can use for development and game playing -- I think the 600XL is too lite on RAM for my requirements of using 16K for RAM and 32K for code. Anybody selling any? Respond or PM please. (_)3 Edited September 17, 2008 by Cafeman
+remowilliams #2 Posted September 17, 2008 800XL is a good 64K machine, and the 130XE has it's merits as well (w/128K) but the construction of them is el cheapo. As far as I am concerned, the 1200XL is still the Cadillac of A8s (excepting PBI and the 130XE Antic memory mapping), and old compatibility issues are easily solved. Sort of depends on what you're looking to do, and how much effort you want to put in.

+remowilliams #4 Posted September 17, 2008 Well if you don't need 128K then, go for the 800XL.
mimo #5 Posted September 17, 2008 800xl, pretty robust, and 64k.missing croma connection so composite or rf output 5 different keyboard versions from ok to great [try and get one with an Alps kb if you can] 130xe can be flakey and love or hate keyboard.s-video/composite/rf output.128k if you really need it
+Cafeman #6 Posted September 18, 2008 800XL sounds acceptable. So anybody want to get rid of one?
mimo #7 Posted September 18, 2008 Give Guitarman a pm, he's got loads and he tests to Atari specs with all his test soft/hardware. Real nice to deal with too
