GTA IV update?

Recommended Posts

I decided to give this game another shot after being extremely disappointed in it comparing it to all other GTA games I own. I haven't played it in months and when I loaded it again it had to perform an update. Well, is it just my imagination or did this update make the game a whole lot more enjoyable. The main thing I notice is the cops are not as numerous. I can actually do stuff without the cops instantaniously being right there or a wanted level instantly being issued. Hell, I've even accidentally ran into cops driving that I couldn't see and that even didn't give me a wanted level, which normlly would.

I have to say, I'm really enjoying this game a lot more. Not sure if it's just my imagination or not, but whatever that update was, it made a difference.

I'll have to check it out. I would like for that game to be good especially since I paid $60 for it.

If they've toned down the police state of Liberty City, I just might give it a play tonight. I realized the difficulty of trying to kill the pidgeons as you can only shoot them. As you know, even thinking about firing a gun in GTA4 gets you a wanted level.

Hmmm, I tried popping GTA4 in this afternoon, and it didn't install any update.... :ponder:

Wishful thinking??

I still haven't tried to insert the disk. I got better things to do....Like feed the cat.

Don't think the cat will eat the game :(

I'll give it a go if I remember. I too did not care for the overly numerous police presence either.

So GTA IV might end up not sucking after all? Great news! Please report on how much it doesn't suck so I can drool until I get my Xbox 360.

now let me remind all of you, that i had not played 1 minute of GTA IV since June,so I may have been late getting the update, but I have noticed a little more "freedom". You can fire a gun without an automatic wanted level, or hell, even just pointing a gun at someone would get you a wanted level, this seems to be toned down. And especially when accidentally running into cops, hills and stuff were hard to see where you were going, I would run into cops all the time and get a wanted, it seems now that if you totally plow into them they will come after you, but accidentally hitting them does nothing..YAY!!!

I'm enjoying this much more than I did back in June, but I still only give the game maybe a 6 out of 10.

You guys are such complainers!

Even w/ the cops this was one of the finest games of the last year.

Honestly, I aggree. Even before the old update, there was nothing wrong with it. If anything, dumbing down the police only hurt the realism. Of course you should get a wanted level just for firing a gun or pointing a gun at someone. Why the hell wouldn't you. Go point a gun at someone in real life and see what happens. :ponder:

the problem I had was that the game is to far from the other GTA's I own. They had more freedom, this game just isn't as fun, it's more tedious than fun. LCS for PSP in my opinion plays much better, but you can get away with a lot more and there's far..FAR less cops.

And hurts the realism? I don't know, I've never been to NYC, but I've also never been anywhere where any given time you could count 2 dozen cops either on foot or in car within 1 block. I think LCS's cop level is probably more realistic and accurate than GTA IV.

I have to agree, I loved nearly every minute of the many hours I put into GTA IV. :lust: :D

To be quite honest, I enjoy GTA IV the way it is. The only problem I have is with the fact you have to increase your rank to unlock more multiplayer character models. Why can't they just have a Create-a-Character feature like in wrestling games?

Alright, so we agree to disagree. I've played pretty much every GTA since 3 (not counting for GB or DS or whatever, but including the Stories as ported to PS2) and say this is better; the way the engine feels and things react and depth trumps the freedom problems. I'd say it had too many duck-n-cover-and-slowly-move-through-building missions, but that's about it.

I love this game and I can't get through each day without playing at least a few minutes of it.

The only thing I'd do away with is the police state, though it does add to the realism of the game. Graphics are just beautiful. Rented Saint's Row and not impressed at all with it.

Also,

On the topic of GTAIV (but slightly off-topic still), does anyone know how to access the internet cafes within this game? I keep reading about them but can't figure out this part of the game.

How far along are you in it?

Brucie sends you to go check it out, don't know if it's available before then.

yeah it's not, you have to get to a certain mission to access them. You can go in. they are not mapped, but you can't really do anything. They won't map or be of any use until the brucie mission.

Also, on another note, are you ever able to gain access to the Arcade?

From what I understand, no. It's just for show.

I finally made some time for GTA4 single player. I HATED the "uncle vlad" mission. Vlad got away way too easily. But I checked the vehicle departure location (ie where do you leave it parked) in some youtube vids, followed suit, and did good. Ah the old mission improvisation is back. In earlier attempts, I blocked vlad's car with a delivery truck, but no go on that.
