Atari 800 at TGI Fridays - Arlington, TX

At the TGI Friday's in Lincoln Square at Collins and I-30 there on the wall along with a 80's X-Wing and C3P0 carrying case (those can be worth a mint alone) is a Atari 800 next to what is probably a circuit board from a Asteriods arcade game (board said Atari on it).

It was great to be at the Amiga group meeting and have a another piece of Jay Miner's (who worked on the Atari 800 and Amiga) work represented where we were eating. :D

Well, if it makes you feel any better I remember seeing a 400 like that years ago.

Doctor Clu...is that you in the any of the pictures or JM pointing to his original masterpiece of class design (1st picture)

:) Sadly Jay Miner is no longer with us, but he is missed by Amiga and Atari fans alike. I'm the guy in the picture..

Cool!

I'm in Irving, TX so I might have to go there and have a look myself.

Nice! Another Dallasite!

im gonna go there and steal it...

LOL! A beige 800? Really? Not your normal style. Besides, they SCREWED it in place. I saw two screws at leasst in the bottom corners of the computer, so they probably went right through the motherboard in a few places.

It looked like a later revision of the beige 800. The keyboard was the type where the keys are not slotted in and loose (my preference). There was nothing in the cartridge slots (opened the cartridge hatch briefly). The memory area was not lock by the quick thumb wing nuts, but just screws. So unable to see if the memory was populated or not. So just a bit more information before you make a visit from Houston. :D

I do recall that JM passed away late 90's...It was mentioned in a newsletter published by an Atari user group i was with at the time

I'm surprised that they (TGI's) didn't have a cabbage patch doll in their little museum...If i recall correctly it was one of the biggest selling toys of the mid 80's

Warerat needs the keyboard out of it for a couple of 800s he has with bad keyboards..

I wonder what they do if I dressed up like some kind of maintanance worker, walked in there with a cordless screwdriver, and just nonchallantly zipped out the screws, posted a sign where it was that said "temporarily out of service" and walked out with it.

Replace it with a C64, who will notice. :)

I'm surprised we don't see more Atari 2600's at Fridays... Then again, I don't go to them very often.

I was about to post that I saw a 2600 stuffed and mounted on a wall this weekend at a Gainesville, FL Fridays. Makes me think that Fridays corporate is scouring garage sales and flea markets and killing off our collectibles for their kitschy walls.

There is a 2600 Jr. on the wall at the TGIFriday's in Lubbock. I thought about seeing if they would let me have it...since that is one of the few Ataris I don't have in my collection.

Jelle,

I have a 200 Jr. I'd let you have for $10. It works fine, but you'd need a power adapter.

Let me know if you want it.

Great find there Doc. You gotta love the 800 "crashing" the Amiga meeting. :D

Yeh it was great. I said "Oh I gotta sit next to the 800".

What was funny was the waitress. I was still going on about how cool it was to see the 800 there. (Yeh it's sad to see a 800 screwed to a wall, but at least others get to see it.) The waitress said "That's a computer?"

"That is Greg's computer that he uses at home" one of the Amiga folk said.

The waitress was shocked.

"Where is the monitor?"

I pointed to the side where the monitor port, and let her know that you could hook up a TV to it. She really looked surprised, probably never saw a Commodore 64, Atari, anything in the design of computer that was the keyboard and motherboard attached design. Probably nothing apart from the tower/seperate keyboard design.

"What was your first computer?"

"Some HP computer..." Yep. :D

It's really weird, the generation out of high school these days seem to have this time block in their knowledge. Video games started with Nintendo, and the computer age seemed to start with the PC clones getting on the internet. LOL!

Oh well, MY TIME BLOCK when it comes to home computers is the home built computers of the mid seventies... the Heathkits, Sol Terminal, Altair, Commodore Pets... talking to this waitress I wonder if my grasp goes far enough back.

Oh well.

Different company, but...

Many years ago, my sister and some cousins were eating at a Bennigan's (I wasn't there, but heard the story). They saw an old picture on the wall showing people from a circus, and they were convinced my grandmother was in the photo. She used to do trapeze stuff when she was young.

They offered to buy the picture for $100, but the manager still refused.
