I knew some might have a doubt with what it does. It does go directly back to the center. I put in Missle Command just to see if it would and it did. It is pretty tight. I did sit down and ponder this idea just to be sure before I did something like this. The base of the trackball controller gave me plenty of room to do it. It works.

I thought of that. I needed a field to work on because you need some room to put the springs on to adjust for the long travel of the stick. Maybe I'll take a boot and put it on the outside. I wonder if it will stretch that far.

I'd be lookin' real hard for some way to put the springs inside. Failing that, there has to be some way to cover that up. CV joint boots are the first to come to mind.

(Why not use a self centering stick to start with?)

I'm still following this with some interest due to the fact that when I put a similar item up for sale the best offer I got was less than you're asking and then the person decided that completely ignoring me after making the offer was the right thing to do. So, I still own mine (currently on loan to a local AtariAger).

That's not cool. Someone makes an offer then chickens out by totally ignoring you. I would at least say I changes my mind. Did you just make a Arcade style controller minus self centering or did it have a stick that centered?
