looks neat, but $46 seems a little steep. I'll stick with the pier solar mentioned a few threads ago. This one looks a little too much like a genesis game, and pier solar, for some reason, doesn't have that problem

--------------------------------------------------------------------

on a side note, and this is going to sound *really* bad...does anybody else have trouble getting into some asian-themed RPG's because the character names all sound alike? I'm just noticing in this one there's 'wukong' and 'wujing' and that right there could be the start of an awful experience for me. Maybe if one had purple hair it'd help...but they don't, they look like twins.

Well now that I sound like a klan member...

I know not everybody has my problem, because games like Jade Empire, or any of those historical Koei games have done very well in terms of sales and reviews--where it just made me feel a bit 'out of place.' Don't make me do an impression of my first (and last) 30 minutes of Jade Empire--it's funny and you'll laugh, but then feel really guilty about it...

I have a bit of a problem getting into Asian themed games, but I guess I've gotten used to it. Reign of Fire was such a game, and had fun with it after I got past the Asian influences. Tha names never really bothered me though, I never remember them. I remember things like "the guy with thebig sword" or "red hair" or "king with crown" and visual identifiers.

An Asian influence I'd like to see is sorta like Rush Hour. I liked that movie :) I shouldn't type drunk. First offense!

The price is okay with me, like a brand new game when the Genesis came out. And I figger they earned it, programming for the Genesis. Just wish SFT would make a network game, and hardware to go with it. It's all good.

I'll take it a step further and say I'm generally worn out with all the Asian culture in most video games. It doesn't make them bad games, but I'm automatically a little less interested when I find out a game takes place in another Asian setting. If it has anime, that's 10x worse though.

The name of that programming group kills me. "Super Fighter Team" ?? Is that meant as a joke?

I guess I'm a klan member too.

Might be a good game though.

If I were to name soomething like this, it would be meant to pretty much lay on the cheese factor. My game store coming soon is gonna be called Super Mega Turbo Games and Computers, for pure cheese factor by using the most overused adjectives in the gaming book.

Hello, everyone.

Thank-you for your interest in my company's newest videogame.

The name of that programming group kills me. "Super Fighter Team" ?? Is that meant as a joke?

My company is named after the first game we acquired rights to: Super Fighter, a PC fighting game that I played as a child and became very fond of. Before Super Fighter Team, my goal had been to distribute and make people aware of Super Fighter; but one day former employees of the company that had originally created it sought me out, and after talking with several of them I negotiated rights to the game from the company president, John Kuo. This inspired me to expand my focus to other videogames from Taiwan that were unknown outside of the country, thus Super Fighter Team was founded.

Legend of Wukong is our latest example of this effort - and it is my hope we can continue to introduce new people around the world to great Chinese software for many more years. :)

Cool - thanks for the info. Understanding this makes me feel better now. :)

I still say the game looks nice. So far all of the things from Super Fighter Team look great, and I intend on getting at least one copy of them all. When my doors open at Super Mega Turbo, I might try to become a retailer for you, Larry :)

Damn, another one. Price is a bit high as stated so i will wait.

You ought to be glad people are still making games for the genesis, instead of complaining about the price.I didn't no about this game.So that makes two game for the genesis to be released this December.Piersolar and this.

I feel this way, and it's pretty much the same feeling Atari lovers feel about new 2600 games from homebrewers.

I was also thinking, new games back in the day during the Genesis Hay Day were about the price that he is charging, so that's zero inflation. I can't ask for anything more. Genesis is rockin!

Very cool news- any way this could find it's way to the Wii's VC? Ducks head and avoids trash being thrown . . .

Only cause I wanna get it but cannot, not shipped anyways.

Until I saw Beggar Prince and this game, I always thought that Taiwan's sole contributions to videogames were piracy and garbageware based on NES contributions from Sachen and Joy Van.

Sorry, no. We only produce new games for classic systems, not as rehashes for emulation.

Ducks head and avoids trash being thrown . . .

Not at all; it's a commonly asked question, and understandably so.

If you are truly in Myanmar, then yes, I think successfully shipping the game would be rather difficult, unless it was by an expensive, secure method.

By far, this is true - lots of Taiwanese software is very poor. However, one has to understand the completely different (read: rediculous) entertainment market they have in Taiwan. People are poor, so the only things they can afford are cheaply programmed / produced / manufactured. Taiwan tried to launch a legitimate games console (the Super A'can) only to have it fail due to its high cost, sub-par software library and inability to compete with the newer, more capable systems of the time period. Aside from that, it's a dog-eat-dog market full of super-cheap bootlegs where the word 'copyright' is nothing but a joke. Add to this that the big companies didn't grant professional development licenses to Taiwanese outfits, and you've got one HELL of a chaotic market.

Still, some companies decided that they'd strike out and create quality software rather than embarrassingly cheap rip-offs, some examples being C&E Inc., Panda Entertainment, Kingformation Ltd., and so on so forth. Some times it proved profitable, other times it meant a quick bankruptcy - but you have to admire any company that goes out of their way to be original and have high quality standards when the majority of the market is full of kids slopping together horribly coded messes that contain naught but stolen graphics / sounds / etc.

This is one reason I highly enjoy what we're doing at Super Fighter Team; getting long-overdue recognition for companies like C&E and Gamtec, that went against the grain, and in part, changing people's views on Taiwanese software. There are gems out there, but unfortunately it's easier to get lost in the deluge of refuse. Thank third-rate outfits like Sachen and Bon Treasure for that.

I don't think $46 is so bad for a new homebrew cart game. Look at the prices charged for new Jaguar homebrews - $80 to $100!!

you're right, it's not bad at all, just at this exact moment it's kind of bad timing for me. It's unfortunate really, since I certainly want both of the new genesis titles. But if one had to choose one or the other...well it's sad, but I think it may hurt this title.

Don´t let Brandon read that; he is no friend of the word homebrew at all, and Wukong is not one either to begin with; it is a chinese game, made more or less professional. Nothing some fans just cooked up in their spare time. ;)

Now, now, I don't appreciate that. Why would you speculate such a thing?

I have absolutely nothing against the word 'homebrew' nor the people who spend their time developing 'homebrew' software; in fact I'm very excited about many of the projects I encounter from this community, and have sponsored homebrew development competitions in the past, the most recent PDRoms development competition being a good example.

I simply wish to see the term 'homebrew' used correctly - and in the case of my company's products, since we employ professional programmers, use industry equipment (such as official development kits) and enter into legal agreements with partner companies, that a more proper term is applied to us, a la 'commercially produced'. This behavior isn't meant to devalue the 'homebrew' community at all, and I have come to expect the term to be applied to my company's games regardless; it's much how people make the mistake of referring to all Taiwanese software as "Hong Kong originals" or even (eek) "unlicensed Japanese games".

Again, I find your insinuations unjust and unfair, but this is life. Though if you have the thought to assume similar things about me in the future, I'd appreciate your taking the time to properly discuss them with me first. I think you should know by now, I'm very quick to respond to such inquiries. It may be easier to just speak your mind than to bother doing any investigation of the subject, but when it's painting someone in an unfairly negative way, it's just uncalled for. Thanks.

Wukong is not one either to begin with; it is a chinese game, made more or less professional.

Yes, this is true; Legend of Wukong was developed in Taiwan by Gamtec, an entertainment software company which is still in business today.

Actually I do not see your problem, as I did not even say anything negative. You should really not try to see attacks in everything posted. You not liking the term "homebrew" was something I have heard from you in the past; I can´t help it if you do not make the details of such comments clear from the start.

You cannot seriously expect everyone to contact you about every little piece of dog-poo; just try not to read things into the tiniest comments and take them as an attack.;)

Why do people think the term 'homebrew' is negative in any way? It's common to use the word 'homebrew' to describe new releases for older, non-supported systems. There are many homebrew games that are fantastic and outshine the bulk of commercial releases.

I prefer homebrew beer to commercial pap like Budweiser or whatever - and I feel the same about a lot of homebrew video game releases.
