New Sega Genesis RPG, Legend of Wukong: by Super Fighter Team

Recommended Posts

BTW is there any time table for the release of Zaku? New screen shots etc ? :)

I can't share any news at the moment. However, the most recently available news will always be available at the game's official website, as well as mailed out to everyone signed up to the Zaku mailing list. Thanks for your interest.

The French website Legendra RPG just added a nice feature about Legend of Wukong, Beggar Prince, Super Fighter Team, etc. While most of the content is in French, there's an interview section at the end which is available in both French and English. Among other things it discusses Legend of Wukong briefly. The interview can be accessed from this link (once there, click on the word "Anglais" for the English text).

I am getting real tired of these idiots making headlines for releasing games that is not original made by them. It is like they took some form of Donkey Kong and edited the sprites and layout and change the name to it's english coutner part. I mean I was looking sooooo much for there original game but the moment I found out it was from Korea....

Why do people think the term 'homebrew' is negative in any way? It's common to use the word 'homebrew' to describe new releases for older, non-supported systems.

Homebrew means home made which means you made it from scratch. Not did a whole run down of self-promotion and marketing. Once you start generating games in a consumer format it is no longer homebrew. Think of it like Unlicensed or in this case pirated like those NES multi carts.

What about Mother 3? is that home brewed? what is stoping APE from making a webpage to order the game for N64?

If I started to generate games I would call it unlicensed and then when I start selling on the more recent systems it would then be commercial or licensed.

I think gametec should sue Super Fighter team or demand royalties

Then kindly ignore such things. Certainly, nobody is forcing you to read them.

In any case, our website and the products themselves both clearly state the complete origins of the games we publish, as well as what work was done by our team to properly prepare said games for international release.

It is like they took some form of Donkey Kong and edited the sprites and layout and change the name to it's english coutner part.

No, actually, it is nothing like that at all. In the case of both Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong, proper licensing from the Taiwanese companies who developed the games, C&E Inc. and Gamtec, was undertaken to ensure both proper respect and legality. In addition, massive amounts of reprogramming were done to both games by our team, without any original source code to go on (meaning the games had to be heavily researched by our programmers before any work was done). This is not, by any means, an easy task, especially in the case of Legend of Wukong where we estimate around 30% of the game was reprogrammed by us to perfect the product. It is also not an inexpensive task.

I mean I was looking sooooo much for there original game

We are currently managing the development of a 100% completely new and original horizontal shooter for the Atari Lynx called Zaku. Perhaps it may interest you?

but the moment I found out it was from Korea....

You're free to look elsewhere if you do not care for our products. Like I said, nobody is forcing you to read about them nor be interested in them. If you don't like what we do, that's fine; everyone is entitled to their own opinions.

I think gametec should sue Super Fighter team or demand royalties

As I've already explained above, we are partnered with the companies whose games we work with, meaning they do receive proper credit and royalties.

If you have any questions about our products, I'd be very happy to answer them - feel free to contact me here, by private message, by e-mail, etc. Thanks.

I still say the game looks nice. So far all of the things from Super Fighter Team look great, and I intend on getting at least one copy of them all. When my doors open at Super Mega Turbo, I might try to become a retailer for you, Larry :)

Nathan

I agree it looks nice but it doesn't look any different than your average Japanese RPG from that era.

Clean Larry just keep your smug to yourself. If anybody post news it is anybodys right to comment or respond to the news in whichever way it might. If your going to take things personal then stop reporting news.

For the sake of originalism; If Superfighter Team is in a "real" partnership with gametec please release games in there original language with the option to change language back and forth in english or whatever other language. Are you up to the challenge of releasing games with original localization?

I don't want to see some random logo or name on the box of any game when that game was not originally made by them to begin with. It is like the dispute between Acclaim and Working Designs. Neither Working Designs or Acclaim had anything to do with manifestation of Alundra II but they knew with there name on it; they would look good. All they did was censor, translate, and promote the game for western audiences.

Yes I am looking forward to original works and I mean works that is manifested from Super Fighter Team that has only to do with Super Fighter Team.

Not gametec or anybody else. All you guys really need is a release that tells the buyer what you are about, and show the world what you can do. Then release it on the Genesis or whatever and port that to Gameboy Advance or PSP. So far all I see is ports, everything I see is ports. It does not have to be perfect since all game companies started with games that was not on the ball to beign with. There is not one game company I could think of that had a perfect release to begin with.

Look at SEGA. They wented from importing and exporting to becoming the first game company to do everything; and today they are still pushing the limit.

I want to see you. I don't want to see nobody else. I just want you.

I'm certainly sorry if you found my very detailed, informative responce to be smug. That wasn't my intention. My intention was to share the facts about our games and about the company itself, so everyone including yourself could have a proper understanding of them.

If anybody post news it is anybodys right to comment or respond to the news in whichever way it might.

Agreed - and I never asked you not to post here. I simply considered it odd for you to be so seemingly upset about our localized games when you apparently aren't interested in them. Personally, I tend to avoid things that make me upset. But, yes, to each their own - and my original invitation to you, regarding any questions you may have about our games, is still open. I'm always happy to answer any questions that people may have.

If Superfighter Team is in a "real" partnership with gametec please release games in there original language with the option to change language back and forth in english or whatever other language.

There's no point, in our business model, to do this. Everyone who wanted to play and enjoy Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong in Chinese has already long-since done so, in their native Taiwan.

Are you up to the challenge of releasing games with original localization?

It's not about "challenge". In fact, to leave these games in their original language, the way they were originally programmed, and simply insert an English routine alongside the Chinese would be quite easier than what we actually do to the games in order to prepare them for a proper release. As I had stated before, Legend of Wukong required about 30% of the game to be reprogrammed by our team, to achieve our desired result.

I don't want to see some random logo or name on the box of any game when that game was not originally made by them to begin with.

Have you looked at any of our game boxes? For Beggar Prince, both C&E's logo and ours appear on the box. For Legend of Wukong, both Gamtec's logo and ours appear on the box. Since my company does such a great deal of work, on our own, without help from the original companies, to prepare our games for release, certainly we are going to credit ourselves for this work. To not do so would be silly. If you think that our extensive work on both Beggar Prince and Legend of Wukong was child's play, you are quite incorrect.

In closing, I'm sorry you seem to be disappointed with what we are doing - but if you take the time to read the "about us" section of the Super Fighter Team website, you will see that the company was originally founded with the goal in mind to share quality Taiwanese software with the rest of the world. Though this certainly doesn't mean we won't produce and release original titles as well (Zaku being a great example of this), it is not going to be the only thing we do. Though you may not be happy with it, our customers and fans around the world are - and the companies in Taiwan that we partner with are. We exist to do what we do, the way we do it, for the benefit of classic gaming. If that's not enough for you, you may be looking at the wrong company to fulfill your gaming needs.

Have a nice day.

Looking at all the abuse here, and I wish I knew where it came from. This isn't the site I fell in love with.

Clean Larry - Let me say that I think you're mad. I mostly mean that in a good way. I have no idea how you guys are turning a profit on any of this, and the amount of work it takes to translate any Asian script on a device with limited memory...

( For those of you who've never tried it, imagine taking a single character, and needing 5 words to accurately describe it's meaning in English. You need to have professional writing skills before you even think about pulling it off. Many mainstream translations settle for watching Babel Fish jump about outside it's tank and eventually die. )

Plus, you guys have enough self confidence to make it look easy.

Perhaps too easy - I'd love to hear the story of how all this came to happen...

But anyways, thanks for supporting the retro market. You make the world a little more complicated, a little less predictable.

A little more insane.

I wish more people did their work for the love of it.

Video Game Trader magazine published a "first look" at Legend of Wukong in this month's issue, written by me. Their only error was to print that the game was due for release in early 2009. In fact, it was released officially on December 03, 2008.

Hi. I know this is old news by now, but RoyalShin is a troll. If you read his other posts, he purposefully makes extremely rude posts purely to get a rise out of people. In that sense, he isn't a true member of this site, and thus you shouldn't worry about what he says, much less bother to respond to any of it.

Thanks for putting out new Genesis lovin'. Any chance of a non-RPG Genny game coming out in the future?

It's my nature to respond to the questions raised by people who are interested in our games, regardless of their possible intent. Troll or not, he may have learned something.

At any rate, thank-you for your consideration.

Thanks for putting out new Genesis lovin'.

You're welcome. It's our pleasure.

Any chance of a non-RPG Genny game coming out in the future?

Nothing is impossible...

Clean Larry, I support what you folks have done making games for the Sega Genesis and beyond. I was the one doing the interview for Speciality gamer website, and look forward to your future projects.

Thanks! It's always nice to have notes of support like this, I appreciate it. ;)

The interview for Specialty Gamer was fun; it was especially cool to be asked about the unearthing of Fatal Encounter. Hopefully you guys have a lot of success with that site. It seems you're having fun already, which is always the most important part.

I was fortunate enough to finally get an article about myself and Super Fighter Team published in a local news publication, something I'm very thankful for. Check it out from the link below, along with a very cool and unique French article about Legend of Wukong which comes with a brief history of the Mega Drive...
