Plastic type of CV cartridge casings?

Recommended Posts

Eduardo (opcode) tells me that 'ABS' plastic is used to make cartridge casings for ColecoVision games. Can someone here confirm this for me? I need to know this for sure before I start contacting plastic maker companies in my city about making new CV casings using Eduardo's mold.

Thanks in advance. :)

I can't answer your question, but Wikipedia seems to agree : with ABS and even M-ABS (ABS transparent) you can make new cartridges. But your question is also based on what the mold can support, and if the owner told you it's ABS plastic...

Eduardo's the owner, and yes, he told me it was ABS, but he wasn't 100% sure. That's why I'm asking the question in this thread. :)

Even if no one here can confirm it, at least I can ask the question to plastic companies I contact...

I'd say it's either ABS or Polystyrene. I know ABS costs quite a bit more. Here's a tip from the wiki:

ABS is flammable when it is exposed to high temperatures, such as a wood fire. It will "boil", then burst spectacularly into intense, hot flames.

So set a cartridge on fire and see if it appears to do the same, then you'll have your answer!
