New and improved Atari 2600

Recommended Posts

I think it would be cool if a company would make an Atari 2600, keeping the same graphics and sounds-but would beef up the memory like 10,000 times. I would think it might be theoretically possible.

Of course then it wouldn't BE an Atari 2600. It would merely have 2600 graphics but the games would be a HUGE size. And maybe memory cards too.

If you mess with the graphics capabilities even a little bit it would make it NOT like the 2600.

Kaz, you seem to have answered your own question.

Do you often have conversations like this with yourself? ;)

Anyway we've already seen bigger games on the 2600 using bank switching. More memory would help some, but I'm guessing it wouldn't get around the central limitations of the hardware, specifically how much can be drawn on one line, etc.

Any engineering types have a thought on this?

i would love to see some atari games with more memory

of course though, like you said, when you do that it ends up not really being a 2600

but if you think about it you could port a popular game from one of the newer systems and see if it still holds up or if modern gamers are only into graphics

but could you imagine an empire strikes back where you meet yoda fight darth and take on at ats

i dunno i just kinda got mixed feelings on the subject

my two cents
