JamesD #1 Posted October 8, 2008 In the past I said that none of my friends had experienced the RROD. Just to be fair I should point out that that has changed. Someone I work with purchased a 360 on launch day and it died from the RROD. He got it replaced and the replacement died within a month and the 3rd one had the DVD drive die. He now owns a PS3 and was avoiding the 360. He said with the availability of Jasper he may buy another 360.

+HammR25 #3 Posted November 21, 2008 So MS skimped on like $2 worth of parts per console that would have prevented this from happening?
Hyper_Eye #4 Posted November 21, 2008 So MS skimped on like $2 worth of parts per console that would have prevented this from happening? I don't know that it is so much that they skimped on parts as they went with the wrong parts. The x-clamps are really the biggest problem and I don't think it would have cost them any to use something else. All I did was remove the posts from the heatsink's and insert bolts in place of the x-clamps. Removing the posts and the x-clamp probably would have removed the same cost as they would have added for the new solution. It is a design flaw. Trust me... the cooling solution that they use now costs much more. It has more heatsinks and they added heat pipes that move the heat to those new heatsinks. The new CPU's also have the smaller die and are much cooler.
S1500 #5 Posted November 22, 2008 I have a March '08 built 360, and I sometimes put my hand up to it to see if it gets hot. It has never even once warmed up my hands. My Thinkpad creates more heat, which is good for those cold, clammy hands in winter. I also give it plenty of space around it, not burying it in the entertainment center. This, my friend, is exactly what I do. I have it outside the TV stand unit on a table of its own. It's funny though: This console has to be treated so differently than others because of this design problem. "Hold on guys, I need to go to the store and buy a bag of ice for my 360..." AtariLeaf #7 Posted November 22, 2008 Quick question, do the ones currently being made still have this problem? Its been out for years now and you'd think this problem would be solved. I have none of the new generation of consoles so I'm dumb as a post when it comes to them so I apologize if this is a dumb question.
