PS2 American Idol Mic w/ Rock Band

Hi all,

 

I've got American Idol for the PS2 (yeah, I liked singing games before Rock Band) and it came with the microphone. Can I use this same mic on the 360 with Rock Band, or is it made console-specific somehow? I know from a PC perspective, USB is USB, but consoles love to keep their toys to themselves. I mean, if they can restrict those guitars to one game, surely they could do the same for a mic.

Is it USB? If so, it should work.

Short answer: Yes. As far as I am aware, a USB microphone will work in any microphone-requiring game on any of the four consoles still on the market.

 

Long answer: The guitars and other instrument controllers of games like Guitar Hero and Rock Band are geared to their specific console and game. Sometimes an instrument controller designed for one game will work with other games on the same console, but you can pretty much forget getting anything sold for one console to work on another (exception: USB-based PS2 and PS3 controllers are interchangeable). However, the microphones seem to be immune to that, perhaps because they aren't really built as game controllers.
