The best place is in the development facilities of game companies in the 70's and 80's.

which state has the most of those?

Probably in the individual developers garages, attics, and basements. Or other collectors. And maybe a landfill or two in New Mexico.

Best state? Probably California.

San Jose area, California. (Silicon Valley) Also San Francisco, Sega USA is headquartered there still and has been since the 80's I think. LA area prolly has some stuff too.

As previously mentioned the best places to find stuff are:

1. Near where a company was headquartered. This tends to be mostly in CA, but some companies were on the east coast as well.

2. Near where game developers live or once lived. Once again this tends to be mostly in CA.

3. My basement. Good luck getting in there... :D

Your best bet is to find an ex-programmer selling their stuff off at a flea market or through craigslist. Of course you might get lucky and find stuff in thrift stores as well.
