unplayed games still sitting on shelf?

Recommended Posts

I almost feel bad doing this practice.

When I first got my xbox 5 months ago, I bought a few cheapie titles. One of them is "Yeager", and not once have I made time to play it. A few weeks ago, I bought "lego star wars" on clearance. Never played it yet.

Did you ever buy games & not once play them for months? I once sold my dreamcast without ever playing my copy of "berserker: guts rage" or whatever it was called.

I have about ten of these, mostly xbox games I bought when I was employed at a certain red-shirted electronics retailer. I got the games for cheap and I do want them, but I never get time to start them. I used to feel guilty about buying games I never played, but I'm noticing that lots of games seem to disappear from store shelves after a year or so. I'd rather buy them when I have the chance and keep them on standby.

My logic is, one day I'll get incredibly rich and be able to quit my job. Or, I'll suffer a debilitating accident and be unable to leave the house. Either way, the net effect will be the same: tons of free time. I'll need games on hand. Better stock up.

I still have Kingdom Hearts 1 and Zack & Wiki sitting on the shelf.

Currently playing through NiGHTS (Wii) and Dracula: Origin(PC), still trying to beat those two to move on.

Years ago when I bought an X-Box, I bought the first Buffy game with it. But over the couple of years that I owned that X-Box, I only used it to watch TV shows on DVD (had I known this, I would have bought a simple DVD player). I only took the time to finish Buffy just prior to selling my XBox to a co-worker. I played the game out of principal, and also because it had an "easy" setting that helped me breeze through it with the assistance of a walkthrough from GameFAQs. Great game though, I did have fun with it.

Today, I have a Game Cube with a Game Boy Player sitting in a drawer, and I have Metroid Prime 2 which is still sealed in cello, as well as a still-unplayed copy of Jedi Knight for GC that I bought used during a trip to Saskatoon in summer 2005. Same goes for several Zelda games on GBA (Link to the Past, Minish Cap, etc.) which are also still sealed. I promised myself I'll play those games one day, but right now, I'm far too involved in ColecoVision stuff.

I have a bunch of xbox games that I have never played yet and more that I have only played once. I also have some wii games that I really need to get back into like zelda and metroid. I keep buying more games and then forget about the older ones. I used to feel bad about it as its kinda like wasting money, but on the other hand I'll have a nice stack of games to play in the winter months when it is too cold to go outside.

I've done it once. I still have Commandos 3 for PC NIB. Just never got around to opening it. I got it on clearance.

I have a Chessmaster game for the PC I installed but never played. I keep telling myself I'll go back to chess but never do. Too much of an instant gratification type of guy I guess.

Since most games I buy are used and cheap, I play all of them for a few minutes to make sure they work. Then I'll go back to play more when I'm in the mood. I'll go months without playing, though. I'll usually play an emulator game or a quick online game when I'm in the mood to play something.

Final Fantasy 7 sat on my shelf until October of 1997, even though I got it two days after launch. I've since played it senseless. I've had FF9 almost since it came out and I still have not played it. Ditto with Parasite Eve.

As for later titles, I have Race Driver 2006 for PSP, a Tiger Woods game for the PSP, ATV Offroad Fury Blazin' Trails for PSP, Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror, and probably several other games I haven't played yet.

I've got Tony Hawk's Pro Skater for DC that's still sitting unplayed. I think I've played all my Saturn games, and I've probably beaten all the beatable ones that are still on my shelf. When I get another copy of Burning Rangers and Shining Force III, I'll probably play and beat them. Speaking of SF, I have an Shining Force II that I have not played, either.

I, too, probably have at least 10% of my collection that's not been played at all.

I have a copy of Chip's Challenge that I bought from this website's store for an Atari Lynx I was ordering from another store (not eBay!). The lynx never came, and the game is still sitting on my bedroom shelf without a system to play it on. :|

I picked up the GTAIII/Vice City 2-pack from Circuit City in 2003 when they were clearancing some games. Still in cellophane. Joining that one are Ico and Viewtiful Joe 2. I picked up the Castlevania game for PSP recently. That one is awaiting my purchase of a PSP, which I'll pick up if I can find at least four more games worth playing to justify the handheld purchase.

For modern games I don't really have any unplayed ones except a few Christmas gifts that I never got around to.

I have several hundred games for all kinds of systems that I haven't had time to try out yet, I've held off on buying a 360 or PS3 mostly because I still have about 50 XBox games that I still haven't checked out. That's the big problem with having a wife and kids :)

Yeah the wife and kids do take up some time. Even the dog. I still have not one but two superchargers that haven't been tried yet. I no longer even remember why I have two.

Quite a few. What happens a lot is that I buy a bunch of games together at a sale (like a buy 2 get 1 free), and one or two of the games get played, and the other(s) just sit there for months. For example, I picked up DQ8 and FF12 at Gamestop because of their big summer sale - the same day I bought my Xbox 360. DQ8 is still unopened, though I did finally start FF12 when my 360 red ringed. ;) I have a handful of shrinkwrapped Dreamcast games - I was buying a lot of stuff at the end of its life. A bunch of random ps2 & xbox games haven't been played (or opened), though for some reason I've played all my Gamecube games (nearly 50).

Yes I have a crap load as a matter of fact.

The N64, PS2, Dreamcase and Xbox games I haven't yet played don't really care about.

Many of those I'd snag from Toys R Us or Blockbusters when they were clearing out titles, so alot of them cost me like $2.99.

The 360 games kind of bug me. Especially ones I paid a good bit for. Like for instance I paid $39.99 for Comdemned shortly after it was released at $59.99. So I figured hey good deal right? Thing is I have yet to play it, and it now sells for like $19.99 new. That $40 aint so good of a deal anymore.

Was organizing my shelfs last night and I have many unplayed games waiting for me to have the time to get to them.

Even discovered I've bought the same Xbox game twice over the last few months, that's a first for me actually accidently buying a duplicate game.

as a collector I have many games I've bought and never played, I would say the number is well over a hundred.

Same here, so sad too!

I think my problem is that I will often buy "lots" of games for a system to get a few that I wanted, so I ended up with quite a few that I don't really care about but don't want to get rid of either. Also, I can't pass up a game I don't have if the price is right (unless it's a sports title.) That's how I ended up with 12 X-Box games for $10 at a yard sale, and I don't even own an X-Box! I gotta figure even the cases are worth at least $.83 each right?

This happens in any sort of media collecting, whether it's LP records, books, or movies, ect. I have a pretty decent DVD collection (my previous addiction) and I lost count of my total a while ago. I have some movies that I'd bought years ago that I haven't watched (or watched only once) that now I'm thinking about getting on Blu-ray. That's sick really. :ponder: In my defense, I've never paid even close to retail for any of them, and that goes for games too. :)

I've got some games for almost every system I own that I've never played, that I bought new. I don't know, it's just that my buying rate is simply higher than my playing rate, I guess. I mean, I still have an unopened Willow for the NES. The last 2600 game I had unopened I finely opened about 10 years ago...Cube (awesome game by the way) But on newer stuff, I got a crapload of 360 games and PS2 game I haven't played yet, just no time as I said.

I actually sold off a bunch of original X-Box titles I never had that were still in the shrinkwrap or had only been played once for some quick cash. I'm still stunned that Ninja Gaiden Black went for like $31 (it even had a $9.99 clearance sticker on it before I peeled it off).

I have several for the PS2 that I haven't played. I've at least played part way through all of my 360 games.

Ditto. After hearing they were worth playing I bought all three Sly Cooper games. I've played maybe a quarter of the way through the first one. It's good, but so are a bazillion other games I own.

I've barely started Okami on the Wii, too, and several others are patiently waiting for attention.
