Where do the peripheral names from?

Recommended Posts

Skunkboard, Catweasels.....

Where do the names come from?

I'm assuming it's because the Jaguar is a big cat, and people like to say skunks and weasels are like cats.

Except weasles and skunks arn't cats. They are in the same order of Carnivora, but they are actually in the dog like Caniformia suborder (along with bears, seals, foxes, wolves, pandas, racoons, sealions, warluses...), where as cats are on the other side in the Feliformia suborder (with lions, tigers, cheetahs, panthers, ocelots, hyenas, mongooses, civets...).

Get your animal associations right people. :P

(Sorry, bored, and I just always wondered why the crazy names for Jag stuff).

I think Skunkboard is kind of a goofy name. ;) I was actually surprised everybody just took it in stride without asking about it.

I liked the name Catbus, but Tursi chose Skunkboard. He liked the animal tie-in with the Jaguar and he wanted to give me some credit for the design. One advantage of Skunkboard is that it's unique -- if you Google it, the hits are pretty clean. A name like BJL will turn up all kinds of stuff.

As for where I got the nickname skunk... you'd have to go to high school with me to understand. ;)

We were just happy a truly useful peice of Jag hardware has finally been released.

You could have called it the ShitBag and no one would have cared.

Great tool regardless of the name.

When Scatologic released an alternate (and at the time cheapest) way to load amateur games and called it J.U.G.S., (Jaguar Unmodified Game Server) I thought it was a funny enough name, but hey, that was the name given to it so I went with it.

I think the "Satandisk", an SD card reader for the ST is also a interesting name.

Skunkboard did have a nice ring to it. Was a name you could just say quickly.
