World of Warcraft fan officially has no life

Think you play too much World of Warcraft?

Compared to "Prepared," you don't.

In a case of game addiction gone officially bananas, gaming blog Joystiq reports on what is surely the biggest Warcraft fan of them all. Known only under the moniker "Prepared," the gamer plays a stunning 36 World of Warcraft accounts on 11 different computers...simultaneously.

Stemming from a desire to manage raids -- large-scale gameplay sessions that typically require the teamwork of multiple players -- all by himself, the die-hard gamer seems undaunted by both the financial and lifestyle commitments to such a geeky endeavor.

"It costs me exactly $5711 in subscription costs per year with 36 accounts on the 6 month pay schedule," he writes. "Not bad considering I'm looking at it like it's a hobby and there are more expensive hobbies out there than World of Warcraft."

Like yachting, perhaps. And despite the downturn in the economy, Prepared can't wait to get his hands on the upcoming Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King.

"I plan to be at the store when it opens and will purchase 36 copies of it. With tax, it should be about $1500 for all of them."

Word of Prepared's over-the-top addiction comes on the heels of the annual Blizzcon Convention, a fan-oriented celebration of the games created by Warcraft publisher Blizzard.

Im rarely speechless, but this is one time I have nothing to add to the idiosy.

Obviously some sort ob obsessive compulsion disorder. This guy needs help. People like this guy are also one of the reasons I quit playing games like that.

One lone can of Mountain Dew in his trash. Surely he needs more Halo Fuel than that to keep up with THIRTY-SIX FRIGGIN' SESSIONS!!

I know a guild leader who is so addicted to the game that he doesn't just want other people to share his addiction, he pretty much MANIPULATES them using emotional blackmail into sharing it, by making them run raids every night. I have a friend who's stuck in their guild who admits they don't like it, yet they can't leave, claiming they'll beg them to come back untill they give in. But I've heard rumors about guilds like this where the leaders are like dictators who use emotional blackmail to do things like this.

There's a chance they might finally be able to leave, but don't count on it.

Speaking of which, anyone watch The Guild?

Funny show depicting a lot of that, and people's lives while in a guild.

I recently discovered Looking For Group. Something else WoW inspired. I find the warlock Richard simply offensive (others seem to think his pointless murdering ways are hilarious, but then, many laughed at Freddy Krueger too in the 80's...) and in general I don't like the feel of the comics, which might explain why I found this $22 book sold this year in a thrift store for $2. :P

The more I see of the culture and people I see come out of WoW, the less and less I'm impressed.

The best WoW satire was the South Park episode about the game.

"MOM!!! I NEED TO GO THE THE RESTROOM!!"

"Be right down dear..."

I refuse to play this game even once. I know me, and I know it would be a life destroying situation. I would be utterly powerless to resist it. Never been into drugs, don't drink much since college, but you give me things to collect and little ping noises, and I'm out of control.

I think we all owe World of Warcraft and its development team a great deal for keeping people like this off the street and locked up in their homes.

Where could you find the time to play WoW that much? Doesnt this fan have a job in the real world?

What is going to happen the day WoW is no longer around?(If that ever happens).

That won't ever happen. Even if the servers came down (which I don't think will happen for a long long time) there is a healthy community of free servers out there. They are prone to having a lot of bugs but by the time the servers go down I bet they could have them about as good as the official servers. They are usable now for anyone who bought the game and has an inactive account or for someone that just wants to take a peek at some of the later content (you could try a "fun server" to level very quickly.) Just download the WoW client which is freely available and try a free server.

When I get the itch for a good Quake1 deathmatch there is always a game going on and there are plenty of software options for getting the quakeworld list. In my signature you will see that I play a healthy amount of Doom deathmatch as well. There will always be people that want to play the game and as long as there are people that want to play it there will be servers to play it on.
