Three DVDs full of vintage video game commercials for sale/trade

Ladies and Gentlemen -

Just in time for Christmas (more or less), I have compiled a huge gathering of old video game commercials and deposited them on DVD - just the thing for the retro gaming nut in your life (or for someone to get you. :) ). Three DVDs worth of material, or just a touch shy of 3 hours (I think the total running time is 2 hours 45 or thereabouts - I've not timed them out fully)

These come from my own personal collection and are NOT just a bunch of crappy AVI files downloaded from youtube and dropped onto a VCD. While I don't claim that they look perfect, they do come straight from VHS recorded off the air (or acquired in trade). I've done my best to clean the audio up and whatnot, but in the interest of full disclosure, some of these ads can look pretty rough. That said, the majority of them look pretty good, considering they come from 25 year old video tape.

"Fantastic!" I hear you cry "I must have this! How do I get a set?" I'm always looking for vintage television shows in trade, of course. However, failing that - how does 12 bucks plus a couple more for shipping sound? Fifteen dollars gets you three DVD-Rs in cases (none of this crappy 'just slip it into an envelope' nonsense here) delivered straight to you door. Oh, and I should mention that while I know I'm kind of a Luddite - I'd try and avoid paypal like the plauge. I've had nothing but bad experience with them before. Anything else shy of them, however. . .

Want to know more? Drop me a line and we'll talk turkey and hammer out the details.

Are they individually selectable via menu or just one straigt through run? What would you estimate the ratio is on good quality to "rough"?

When I first tried to master the DVD, I had a chapter break for every spot - and my poor old computer's brain just about exploded at that, so now I've got the chapter breaks every 10 minutes or so. Oh, and fully constructed menus, too. They're not fancy, but it looks way better than your VHS to DVD burner would come up with.

As for ratio of clunkers to golden - there are only two or three really really bad, nearly unwatchable ones, about 10% of them that have serious problems (tracking and sound issues) and probably about 20% that are really really good looking (like the Apple Big Brother ad I traded with someone at a TV station who got the DVD right off the broadcast master). The rest are in pretty good if not outstanding shape.

really interested but as I am in belgium

I can pay only with paypal

For starters, these are NTSC discs. While I don't *THINK* there should be any problem playing them on a PAL player, I cant make any guarantees. They played fine on my two region free players and they should be okay, but I can't be sure. Also, the cost of mailing overseas will be a bit more. It was about 8 dollars from the US to France, so I'd guess that the cost to Belgium would be about the same.

As for payment, like I said - I've had nothing but bad experiances with Paypal. However, I will be going to europe soon. If you wanted to pay in Euros (I think Belgium does Euros), I'm more than willing to take that, too. Well, provided that you send it before the end of december. :)

If that works, let me know and we can work out the details.

Any chance of a torrent?

Ah. . . no.

While I'm not trying to get rich or anything, I did put a lot of work into these compiling commercials from all maner of sources, tracking down VHS from every thrift store in the greater seattle area, cleaning them up and remastering them the best I can. 12 bucks is not unreasonable to ask for that level of work and three hours of commercials.

That and it wouldnt be fair to the folks I've already done deals with. If I were them, I'd be livid if a torrent went up a week after I forked over the cash.

Hey guys -

So I'm going to be going out of town in a couple of weeks (WAYYYY out of town, like Paris), so if anyone wanted to get a set of commercials before christmas, you might want to jump on it in the next couple of days. After about the 15th or so, I'll be off line until after New Years.

You download these from YouTube and burn to DVD? 'cause I could do that for free.

i think he cleary stated that that´s not what he did

Correct, these come from VHS recorded off the air back in the 70's and 80's and look WAY better than the crappy, overcompressed youtube streams.

Just out of curiosity, what method did you use for capturing? Also, since these were VHS tapes, did you use a TBC to eliminate lost frames & sync issues commonly found on VHS/dvd transfers?

I've got an actual dedicated video capture card for my computer, and while I dont have a TBC, the capture/editing program I use (Studio pro) is pretty good about displaying dropped frames and the like. And ever since I got my second, bigger, faster hard drive, any dropped frame issues have cleared up.

you said trade is a way of payment. trade for what?

Well, I'm always looking for more 70's and 80's commercials, plus old TV shows of that vintage that haven't shown up on commercial release DVD yet. As far as games go, I'm a 2600 man m'self, but I'm not in the market for anything specific. That's just a long winded way of saying I'm open to offers.

Some of them yes - but surpsingly a lot of them I dont. Did you grab those from off the internet, or did they come from your own collection? (if it's the latter, perhaps we can work something out. . . .)

Oh yeah, I'm back in town so I'll be catching up on some back orders and getting my ducks in a row again. If you havent heard from me in a bit, you should soon.

Shipping to Canada is how much? I want to add this to my birthday wishlist

:D great work by the way, I like the size of the list

I dont know for sure, but I would guess probably only a couple of bucks more. To send to Europe runs about 8 or 9 dollars, so certanly less than that for sure. I have to stop at the post office tonight, so I'll ask what the ballpark price would be and get back to you in the morrow.

Hey - sorry about not responding. Life got busy and somehow I wound up putting off checking here tome and again (in other words, if you want, send a PM - that drops me an email and reminds me to get my lazy butt here!)

Shipping to canada, as I suspected, isnt all that much more. It's only like 3 bucks or thereabouts to ship north of the border. So lets call it 18 for a set.

I know this thread is crazy old but is there any way I can get a set? I run a retro gaming convention and we are doing a history exhibit this year and I am trying to find commercials to run on displays around the machines of that era.

Anyone still have one? It looks like Tony has been offline for a long time.
